Ms Katjiuongua welcomed the participants, noting that they had been
asked to gather for this <strong>2nd</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> on OVC to follow up on
what had been done since the first conference in May 2001 and to chart
the way forward.
The purpose of this introductory session was to update the participants
on the work of the <strong>National</strong> Steering Committee on OVC (OVCNSC) since
its establishment at the last conference, to bring to light issues of concern
for their consideration at the conference, and to familiarise them with legal
developments relevant to their work with OVC.
After a prayer led by Sister Petronella Shetunyenga of Catholic AIDS
Action (CAA) Ms Katjiuongua called on the first presenter.
Following are verbatim transcriptions of the slides and commentaries,
written notes and/or tapes of the proceedings (with minor edits for layout
purposes), and summaries of the plenary discussion on each presentation.
The Jan Möhr Secondary School choir sang a few songs and led the participants in singing the Namibian national
