Spring is in the air…
let’s decorate!
Now, more than ever, home is our haven and safe place. We’re being asked to distance ourselves
from each other and stay home as much as possible for the foreseeable future. It’s scary. It’s strange.
It’s really hard. But, it’s also a great time to make home a pleasant place to be.
In this issue, HABIT@T Hillcrest owner
Cindy Austsen shares some simple
spring decorating ideas in hopes that it
will help give you ideas on how to make
your home look and feel like a place you
want to ‘hunker down’ and stay in for a
while!
Add plants and greenery to
your space
‘Bringing the outdoors in always makes
a space feel more alive and fresh.
Having plants around (even faux ones)
lifts your spirits and mental state. I know
adding these beautiful branches and
succulents to a dining room table helps
keep one’s emotional state more stable
- it’s silly, but true! Add succulents to
open shelves or simply pop them into
a cup or vase, they look effective and
sooo cute! Not all plants have to be real
to be effective, a beautiful faux plant
will still bring life and depth to any
room or dining table.’
Use pops of spring colours
and special pieces
‘It’s really no secret that nude neutrals
are everybody’s favourite colours to
decorate with. I’m just loving the
splashes of yellow and blush pinks to
add a little something special. From
cute pink pots to beautiful yellow
scatters, these little pops of colour as a
lot of cheer and sweetness.’
Use the “Less is More”
approach
‘While we love to pile on layers upon
layers upon layers during the winter
season, it’s a really good idea to scale
back for spring. Choose just a few decor
pieces that you really love rather than
going overboard.
This spring, choose a lot of neutral
pieces with natural wood tones and
mix in with your greenery. Choose a
simple piece of artwork with soft spring
colours to place on a bedside table or
server, bringing in subtle hints of spring!
Keeping it simple also helps to keep one
calm…which is a must at this time.’
Use floral and botanical
prints
‘My last idea for spring decorating is
incorporating beautiful floral art and
printed fabrics into your home. With
the current botanical trends, we are so
spoilt for choice. Floral art looks and
feels springy and can stay for a while!’
