LO CA L A R E A Pick your own Halloween treat WHETHER YOU WANT TO EAT THEM, CARVE THEM OR THEME YOUR HOME DECOR AROUND THEM, THERE’S NO ESCAPING PUMPKINS THIS MONTH Here at J’AIME we plan to embrace squash and pumpkins this October. We won’t be buying one from the supermarket though - we plan to pick our own. Here are some places you can head to if you want to follow suit: Manor Farm Fruits, Watling Street, Hints The farm’s annual Pumpkin Fest is back and will run from October 15 to 31. We can’t wait! Manor Farm Fruits have grown more than 20,000 pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and varieties to help make your Halloween celebrations extra special. Due to the ongoing restrictions of COVID-19, there will be limited activities for children this year, but there will be a range of spooky merchandise on sale and a large outdoor seating area where you will be able to enjoy a selection of drinks and snacks in a safe environment. Admission is £2 per person and must be pre-booked at www.manorfarmfruits.co.uk Beckets Farm, Alcester Road, Wythall, Birmingham The annual pumpkin parlour has been cancelled for <strong>2020</strong>, but the farm shop will still be selling pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. If you leave the seeds behind they may well grow into next year’s pumpkin crop. Pumpkin picking is available all day on October 17, 18 and from October 24 to 31. Bednall Farm Pick Your Own Pumpkins, Bednall, near Brocton, Stafford An ever-popular event for visitors from around the Midlands, Bednall Pick Your Own Pumpkins will be welcoming guests from October 22 to 31 to pick fresh pumpkins in time for Halloween. This year, to ensure the event remains safe for visitors, slots will need to be pre-booked, although tickets are still completely free. There are two slots each day; morning and afternoon, and visitors are welcome to arrive at any point in their slot up to half an hour before the end, staying for as long as they want in that time. For more details and to make a booking visit www.facebook.com/pickyourownpumpkinsbednall Canalside Farm, Shop and Cafe, Mill Lane, Great Haywood The farm’s staff have planted more than 7,000 squash, gourds and pumpkins for you to pick including unusual varieties and colours from the Turk’s Turban, Cougar, Corvette, Bently, Secretariat and tasty Orangita varieties. Pumpkin Fest will run from October 10 to 31 - and you can also eat fresh pumpkin in the cafe. This season you will need to book a specific time slot to pick pumpkins via the farm’s website (available from October 1) to help steady the flow of people at any one time. There will be a £2 charge per person (under 3s will be free) to 42
