Covid-19 has presented major challenges for our local economy. There are many affected sectors such as hospitality, tourism, accommodation, retail, construction and the small to medium sized businesses within that. Primary sectors such as viticulture, seafood, aquaculture, farming and forestry will be critical for our recovery. Afocus must be on stopping business closure, job losses and providing support to our communities around mental health. Parts of the Kaikoura electorate are reliant on tourism activities and it will be vital to showcase our region as the gateway to the South Island.
