Toy libraries offer<br />

affordable options<br />

Toy librariesare alow cost way for<br />

families to accessthe latest toys.<br />

There are active toy librariesall over<br />

<strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong> that are run by<br />

volunteers. Theyallowfamilies to borrow<br />

toyswithout the big expense.<br />

‘‘Itmeans you don’t have to buy the big<br />

toys. You can borrow it and save money,<br />

and we havelots of lovely toys,’’ Hawarden/<br />

Waikari Toy Library president Brona<br />

Youngman says.<br />

The grouphas focused on buying<br />

sensorytoys and the bigger,more<br />

expensivetoys which many families would<br />

not otherwisebeable to afford.<br />

‘‘Weare starting to be abit moreclever<br />

about whatwebuy and we are listening to<br />

the mums to make sure we are buying<br />

things the kids will play with.’’<br />

The Hawarden/Waikari Toy Library<br />

meets in the RSA RoomsonO’Carrolls<br />

Road, Hawarden, on Mondays from 3pm to<br />

The Amberley Toy Library Inc meets in<br />

the Plunket rooms,behind the Amberley<br />

Library, and is open on Tuesdays from9am<br />
