Very Rewarding Ride
By Annie Maunder
I have a dilemma! My brain is saying that I am 15 years old, but my body is not listening.
A
I have a super Connemara mare that has been (not so) patiently waiting for her chance to
show off her talents and so far has not really been given the opportunity – even though she
has clearly been showing me how talented she is!!
I had begun to take lessons (those of you who know me, know what a rarity THAT is!) with
Daniela Moguel and was actually having a tremendous amount of fun! Danny rides for
Mexico and she and her husband, Zully, teach and train from their barn in Shelby, NC. I run
out of steam quite quickly these days, so I asked Danny if she would like to ride Nessie for
the rest of the lesson. Watching the two of them actually reduced this old fossil to tears!
Danny is about the same size as me and I saw myself 30 years ago (only MUCH better!). It
was at that moment that I realized my dilemma could easily be resolved, which was reinforced
when Danny refused to get off of Nessie because
she was enjoying her so much!
We have forged a wonderful relationship where I am
privileged to live vicariously through a kind, talented
rider and her lovely supportive team. If you had told
me that I would enjoy seeing someone else ride my
horse, frankly, I would have been insulted – but I
would have been wrong. Danny took Nessie Training
level at Windridge in October and proved to all watching
that a thoughtful and confident Cross Country ride
could be spectacular. Both horse and rider finished
sporting huge grins – oh yes, AND so did the OWNER!
