We all know that regular exfoliation is
key to ensuring healthy-looking skin, but
when AHA/BHAs are used twice daily,
skin can easily become overwhelmed.
This is because AHAs/BHAs are incredibly
effective at their job, so are best used 2-3
times a week. Constant overuse of AHA/
BHAs can compromise our skin’s barrier
function leading to sensitised, flaky skin.
With Press & Glow, Medik8 has
developed a solution: a high-performing
PHA toner that can be used twice daily.
Why PHAs? PHAs, or polyhydroxy acids,
are a next-generation acid group that
enable a slower, more gradual exfoliation
process.Thanks to their large molecular
size, they are non-irritating and don’t
sting, unlike some other acids.
Medik8’s choice of PHA is
Gluconolactone. This gentle
acid helps to exfoliate the
uppermost dead skin cells
to reveal fresh, healthylooking
and glowing skin.
When applied to the skin,
it converts to gluconic acid,
an active acid within the
skin. This conversion acts
as a form of time-release,
slowly releasing the acid
into the skin, meaning
irritation is unlikely.
An additional benefit
of Gluconolactone is its
hydrating properties – the
multiple hydroxy groups
attached to the molecule
essentially act as water
magnets. The result? Skin
that’s more resilient and
better able to optimise
vitamin C and A – both core
