Five GCSEs grade 4 or above,<br />

including English and maths.<br />

What will I learn?<br />

Year 1:<br />

During year one you'll gain a broad knowledge<br />

of business including finance, marketing,<br />

events management, recruitment and<br />

enterprise. You'll also complete:<br />

Employer Led Project:<br />

You'll plan, market and manage an event with one of<br />

our partner organisations. This project will push you<br />

to the limits, developing your communication, team<br />

working and project management skills.<br />

As part of the project you'll design and deliver the<br />

marketing for the event with the use of industry<br />

standard software including Canva, Adobe photoshop<br />

and Trello. Digital marketing plays a key part in this<br />

project and you will gain an understanding of:<br />

SEO (search engine optimisation)<br />

CRO (conversion rate optimisation)<br />

social media/Google ads (PPC)<br />

Google/social media analytics.<br />

Following the event you will analyse and feed back the<br />

results to the partner organisations, communicating<br />

lessons learned just like you would in a real life agency.<br />

Recruitment Exercise:<br />

During this project you get to gain an insight from<br />

a human resource specialist into how a local<br />

employer recruits. You will then use this knowledge<br />

to work as a team to recruit for a vacancy. To give<br />

you the employment edge you will be interviewed<br />

by a specialist in your chosen future career.<br />

Start Up Pitch:<br />

The year will end on a high with you developing your<br />

very own business plan which you will pitch to a panel<br />

of entrepreneurs. As part of this project you will get<br />

the chance to attend Newcastle Startup week where<br />

you'll hear from and meet successful entrepreneurs<br />

who will help you to shape your business plan.<br />

Year 2:<br />

Following successful completion of year one you'lll<br />

step up and become a decision maker in international<br />

business. As well as this, you'll get the opportunity to<br />

specialise in one of the following areas:<br />

Investment Finance and Accounting:<br />

Do you enjoy working with numbers, have a good<br />

eye for spotting mistakes and want to invest on the<br />

stock exchange? You'll earn how to record financial<br />

information, draw up financial accounts and the ways to<br />

invest finance. Alongside this you'll take part in a virtual<br />

stock exchange competition. Who will grow the largest<br />

portfolio?<br />

International retail, buying and merchandising<br />

Do you want to work in the fast moving industry of retail,<br />

forecasting trends, testing products and understanding<br />

what makes customers tick? You will gain a broad<br />

understanding of the retail industry, how it responds<br />

to changes and forecasts trends. Understanding the<br />

psychology behind customers and managing the<br />

supply chain is key to success. You will test what you've<br />

learned by creating a visual merchandising display at<br />

the Metrocentre.<br />

Digital marketing:<br />

Are you creative and love working with social media and<br />

websites? You'll build on your work in year one gaining<br />

further insight into branding and digital marketing. You'll<br />

undertake further research into how social media can<br />

influence customer behaviour and gain results for a<br />

business. You will then get to put what you have learned<br />

into practice through the development of a social media<br />

campaign for one of our partner marketing agencies.<br />

Law and human resource management:<br />

Through this option you will gain an understanding<br />

of what it's like to develop people in the world of HR<br />

(human resources). Attention to detail is vital, you'll learn<br />

what you need to do to comply with employment law<br />

as well as gaining an insight into criminal law. You will<br />

hear from judges, magistrates and other professionals<br />

in addition to attending the court room and conducting<br />

mock trials.<br />
