PRIOR TO ARRIVING IN SCHOOL PARENTS NEED TO

• Take temperature at home: Keep student at home if temperature is over 99.5ºF (37.5ºC) and/or the student

presents symptoms

• Notify the school via email

• Follow steps below:

A

MILD SYMPTOMS AND MILD FEVER

LESS THAN 99.5ºF (37.5ºC)

• Evaluation and Observation.

• This includes absence from school activities for a

minimum period of 24 hours.

• 24 hours without any fever without the use of

fever reducing medications

• No symptoms are present

• Alternative diagnosis and medical clearance to

return to EA

FEVER OVER 99.5ºF (37.5ºC)

• No COVID-19 symptoms and NO risk factors

- They need a medical evaluation to provide an

alternative diagnosis to COVID-19.

- 24 hours without fever, without the use of fever

reducing medications

- No symptoms are present

- Alternative diagnosis and medical clearance to

return to EA

C

FEVER OVER 99.5ºF (37.5ºC)

• COVID-19 symptoms and/or risk factors without

a specific diagnostic test

- They will need a medical evaluation to determine

the severity of symptoms.

- 72 hours with improvement of symptoms and

without a fever, without the use of medications

to control fever.

- Medical record and definitive diagnosis to return

to EA.

FEVER OVER 99.5ºF (37.5ºC)

• COVID-19 symptoms and/or risk factors with a

specific diagnostic test

- Case: Isolation for 10 days - Cleared when no fever

for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing

medications and improvement of symptoms

- Contacts: Quarantine for 14 days. Cleared after 14

days if no symptoms developed

If when in school the student presents any of the above: The nurse will determine whether to send the student back to

class or to go home. Students are not allowed to loiter in the nurse’s office or to use it as a student lounge. The nurse will

not diagnose illnesses or prescribe medications.

• Ministry of Health has additional information reporting requirements.
