South Australia.
Remember to let people know where you
are going, follow the rules and care for the
environment. There are many safety
checklists online.
SA’s beaches offer near perfect driving
conditions. Close to Adelaide is Sellicks
Beach and Silver Sands while Long Beach
at Robe and North Beach at Wallaroo on
Yorke Peninsula are easy driving options.
For drives that are a step up, consider
Goolwa Beach to mouth of the Murray
River, Emu Bay on Kangaroo Island and
Coffin Bay National Park and Shelly Beach
on Eyre Peninsula.

Favourites in the Limestone Coast region
include the Canunda National Park and the
Little Dip Conservation Park where a mix
of bush, dunes and coast driving abounds.

The iconic Coorong National Park should be
high on your list if you are a fan of beach
driving. Cruise along deserted shorelines
and set up for a spot of fishing or boating.
It’s an easy drive, south-east of Adelaide.
4WD tracks throughout the Flinders,
Outback & Eyre regions will get your blood
pumping. There’s the famous Oodnadatta
and Strzelecki Tracks, the Gawler Ranges,
and the Nullarbor National Park, but there
are literally dozens of other amazing
options.
The Yorke Peninsula region boasts 700
kilometres of coastline and lots of spots
to 4WD. West of Minlaton is Parsons Beach
where access to the beach is only suitable
for four-wheel drive vehicles. From here
you can drive the 20-kilometre stretch to
Minlacowie. Another beach drive for 4WD
only is between Flaherty’s Beach and
Point Turton.
Whatever region you visit, and whatever
your level of experience you can certainly
find some amazing and picturesque ‘off the
beaten track’ experiences in South Australia.
