show returns to the Rangiora<br />

Showgrounds on Saturday, <strong>January</strong> 23 and<br />

Sunday <strong>January</strong> 24.<br />

30th anniversary showwas epic, and only<br />

afew monthslater the world changed with<br />

the Covid­19 pandemic. ‘‘Most of 2020 saw<br />

the majority of majorevents, in virtually<br />

everycountry, cancelled.<br />

AThursday twilightcruise will give<br />

peopleinRangiora and Kaiapoi an<br />

opportunitytosee some of the cars taking<br />

part in the weekend event.<br />

Aconvoy of carswill travel down<br />

Rangiora’s High Street,‘‘tiki touring’’<br />

throughseveral residentialstreets,before<br />

headingback downthe mainthoroughfare<br />

andontoKaiapoi via Lineside Road.<br />

They willtraveldown Williams Street,<br />

before heading back along to the Rangiora<br />

showgrounds via Lineside Road.<br />

About 250 cars will be on the preweekend<br />

warm­up cruise, with about 2000<br />

cars expected on show on Saturday and<br />

Sunday.<br />

Craig saysvisitors areinfor atreat this<br />

year, withthe event lucky to have Martin<br />

Bennett’s ‘‘Uncertain T’’ at the event,<br />

which willbeits only South Island<br />

appearance.<br />

It is atributecar honouring atop<br />

American show vehicle thattouredthe<br />

show circuitsome 55 years ago.<br />

Monogrammodels built a1/24th kit set<br />

of the car, which went on to be its topselling<br />

model.<br />

Martintook the tribute car to the United<br />

States to competeinsix of the largest hot<br />

rodshows. He won more than 20 trophies,<br />

including afirst in class for the best handbuilt<br />

hot rod at the prestigious Grand<br />

NationalRoadster show in Pomona.<br />

Craig encourages people who own<br />

‘‘something different’’, or acar that is their<br />

pride and joy,toput it on displayatno<br />

extra cost other thanthe $20 adult gate fee.<br />

Because of restrictions on overseas<br />

guests, all music will be Kiwi­based, with<br />

afew young children's rockbands also<br />

making guest appearances.<br />

One of the most popular activities will<br />

againbethe Stadium Finance­sponsored<br />

burnout pad which operates each day<br />

from 1.30pm.<br />

Competition in this event gets tougher<br />

every year, Craig says.<br />

For those rocking the times, the<br />

rockabilly pageantisonSaturday at noon.<br />

The event will be finished in time for<br />

the afternoon burnouts.<br />

Craig suggests patrons bring someextra<br />

cash, or there is eftpos,asthe stallarea is<br />

again massive, with lots of ‘‘oneoff’’<br />

products available.<br />

He also warns people to be in quickly to<br />

buy an event T­shirt, as theyalways sell<br />

out fast.<br />

‘‘Our helpersare wearing orange<br />

T­shirts so if you need help, ask one of<br />

themorgotothe bright blueinformation<br />

centre container.’’<br />
