country cricketduring the weekend,while
Sefton enjoyed abig win over Weedons.

firstpost­Christmas round on Saturday.
At picturesque CheviotDomain, visiting
Ohokabowled first and soonhad the
Magpies in trouble, withleft­arm paceman
Hamish Williams doing the damage at the
top of the order.
Williams picked up four crucial wickets,
as did New Zealand under­19 starRhys
Mariu, who ripped through the middlelowerorder.
ChrisBurnett was the only shining light
for Cheviot,his 65 runs off 74 balls standing
out like abeacon.
Chasing 144 to win, Ohoka got offtoa
shakystart,reduced to 20/2,with Mariu
making agoldenduck, before Will
Hamiltontook over thematch, smashing
an unbeaten 81 off 63 ballsand leading his
side to an easy seven­wicket win with 21.1
oversremaining.
Darfield prevails
AtrickywicketatMandeville produced a
tightencounter between struggling
Southbrookand apowerful Darfield side.
Southbrookwas cruising at 94/3, with
Canterbury legend Shanan Stewart (29 off
83) and keeper­batsmanGus Mowat (27off
59) grinding out adecent first­innings total.
But when they fellinquick succession,
Southbrookshuffled on to lose six wickets
for 36 runs, stuttering to 130/9inthe side’s
allotted45overs.
Even with the low score,Southbrook felt
it was in the hunt, withbattingdifficult.
Darfieldgot off to asolid start with Zak
Foulkes (13) and Nick Gilbert (18), before
Southbrookclawed its way back.
Canterbury representative Henry
Shipley got one that keptlow off promising
youngster GeorgeGunn, who snared two
wickets,and DarrynBoyle nibbled out two
more. But the damage had been doneand
Jesse Frew’s unbeaten 33 saw Darfield
claim ahard­foughtfour­wicket win.
Sefton victorious
Seftonthumped Weedons after
amassing 261/7inits 45 overs, with
contributions through the order and every
batsman showing aggressive intent.
The bigtotal was too much forWeedons,
which fell almost 100runs short.
Lincoln had thebye while the last
fixture of the round was abandoned due to
awater­logged pitch at Pearson Park.
Oxford, at the base of the Canterbury
foothills, saw more rainthanmost of the
regionlast week,and although club
volunteerscovered the main oval block,
the 50 to 60mm of rain that fellproved too
much, sneaking under the covers at one
end, makingitunplayable.
