At picturesque CheviotDomain, visiting<br />
Ohokabowled first and soonhad the<br />
Magpies in trouble, withleftarm paceman<br />
Hamish Williams doing the damage at the<br />
top of the order.<br />
Williams picked up four crucial wickets,<br />
as did New Zealand under19 starRhys<br />
Mariu, who ripped through the middlelowerorder.<br />
ChrisBurnett was the only shining light<br />
for Cheviot,his 65 runs off 74 balls standing<br />
out like abeacon.<br />
Chasing <strong>14</strong>4 to win, Ohoka got offtoa<br />
shakystart,reduced to 20/2,with Mariu<br />
making agoldenduck, before Will<br />
Hamiltontook over thematch, smashing<br />
an unbeaten 81 off 63 ballsand leading his<br />
side to an easy sevenwicket win with 21.1<br />
oversremaining.<br />
Darfield prevails<br />
AtrickywicketatMandeville produced a<br />
tightencounter between struggling<br />
Southbrookand apowerful Darfield side.<br />
Southbrookwas cruising at 94/3, with<br />
<strong>Canterbury</strong> legend Shanan Stewart (29 off<br />
83) and keeperbatsmanGus Mowat (27off<br />
59) grinding out adecent firstinnings total.<br />
But when they fellinquick succession,<br />
Southbrookshuffled on to lose six wickets<br />
for 36 runs, stuttering to 130/9inthe side’s<br />
allotted45overs.<br />
Even with the low score,Southbrook felt<br />
it was in the hunt, withbattingdifficult.<br />
Darfieldgot off to asolid start with Zak<br />
Foulkes (13) and Nick Gilbert (18), before<br />
Southbrookclawed its way back.<br />
<strong>Canterbury</strong> representative Henry<br />
Shipley got one that keptlow off promising<br />
youngster GeorgeGunn, who snared two<br />
wickets,and DarrynBoyle nibbled out two<br />
more. But the damage had been doneand<br />
Jesse Frew’s unbeaten 33 saw Darfield<br />
claim ahardfoughtfourwicket win.<br />
Sefton victorious<br />
Seftonthumped Weedons after<br />
amassing 261/7inits 45 overs, with<br />
contributions through the order and every<br />
batsman showing aggressive intent.<br />
The bigtotal was too much forWeedons,<br />
which fell almost 100runs short.<br />
Lincoln had thebye while the last<br />
fixture of the round was abandoned due to<br />
awaterlogged pitch at Pearson Park.<br />
Oxford, at the base of the <strong>Canterbury</strong><br />
foothills, saw more rainthanmost of the<br />
regionlast week,and although club<br />
volunteerscovered the main oval block,<br />
the 50 to 60mm of rain that fellproved too<br />
much, sneaking under the covers at one<br />
end, makingitunplayable.<br />
