Road trippin’
Maybe it’s just us, but just the thought of being ‘locked down’ tends to make us want
to get going! Whether you’re looking for a (safe) getaway right now, or are planning
ahead for a road trip in a few months’ time, here are a couple of our favourite not-toofar-from-home
road trip destinations …
The Cavern Drakensberg
Resort & Spa
The Cavern is set in a secluded valley of the
Northern Drakensberg. It is a site of conservation
significance and there are guided morning hikes
and horse rides on offer daily. A swimming pool,
MTB trails and dams for fishing extend the offerings
for outdoor adventure while the Forest Retreat
Spa is a tranquil escape for complete relaxation.
Standard or superior rooms are set in indigenous,
landscaped gardens where you can relax in the
exquisite mountain wilderness. Details: www.cavern.
Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk
Just an hour from Ballito (so perfect for a
day trip), the Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk
offers a magical experience. The 125m
boardwalk is 10m high and ends in a 20m
observation platform with spectacular views
overlooking the 250-hectare indigenous
forest. There are two marked hiking trails to
enjoy the abundant bird life and fascinating
fungi. Pack a picnic or grab a snack from the
kiosk and enjoy secluded picnic/braai spots
near safe and secure parking. Details: Nola
