ARTISTS DISCUSS AUGUSTA SCULPTURE TRAIL WORKS By MIGUEL LEGOAS Downtown Augusta has been decorated with 11 new sculptures that range from colorful and silly to elegant and complex. The sculptures are spread out across the downtown area as part of a new Sculpture Trail by the Greater Augusta Arts Council. Executive Director Brenda Durant said the idea is to spur economic development downtown, pride in the community and give people another reason to visit downtown. 64 | 1736magazine.com

The artists explain their creations and the inspirations behind them. “What a Wonderful World,” by Leonard Ursachi of New York City, depicts Earth in the shape of an egg, which he said represents the importance of home and how fragile a home can be. The small opening is meant to resemble that of a bunker or refuge, and the mirror inside is meant to inspire self-reflection. The piece is made of branches, stainless steel and pigmented cement.
