Autocross Series: 2021 Autocross Classifications

Each year, we review, and
update if needed, the MAVPCA
autocross classes. Since many of
our participants also run some
of the other 40 autocross events
in North Texas, we try to keep
our preparation and groupings
consistent with the Sports
Car Club of America (SCCA)
groupings and Performance Index
(PAX), the handicapping system
that is updated annually based on
results from all over the country.
This makes it possible to compare
results across all classes.
For 2021, we still have our
own Porsche Classes, built
into the SCCA model used by
our autocross partner, Equipe
Rapide Sports Car Club (https://
autocross.com). This year there
are a few changes to be more inclusive and encourage
participation by our members. The first seven classes
Owen Coulman leaning into a corner in his GT3
have a minimum of a 200 treadwear rating street tire
restriction, and must be street legal.
PV is the Vintage Porsche class
for all street-legal 356 and 912
Porsches. We know they are out
there, and some come to watch
or ride along at these events. We
would love to see you exercising
your cars with us.
P1 has been changed to make a place
for all the front-engine transaxle
cars to come back to autocross. We
know there are a lot of 924, 944,
968, and 928 owners out there, so
we wanted to make a place for you
to play with us.
P4 is for 2010-2021 911 Turbo,
2015-2021 Boxster Spyder and
GTS, 2015-2021 Cayman GT4
and GTS, 2013-2021 991/992 S
and GTS. These are very capable
autocross cars.
PH is the Heritage Classic Street
class, parallel to the SCCA HCS
class. All street legal 914 and all
911 to 1973 and 2.4 liters, both
with up to 7-inch wide wheels fit
here. We get good participation
in this group regularly.
P0 is unchanged and is for all
our four-door models: Macan,
Cayenne, Panamera, and Taycan.
We have had good participation
from the Macan and Cayenne
drivers and would like to see
some of the big sedans this year.
P2 is for the 1974-1994 911,
1995-2012 non-S 911, 2005-
2009 911 Turbo, 1997-2004 986
Boxster/Boxster S, 2005-2021
987/981/718 non-S/GTS Boxster
and Cayman. It’s a competitive
power vs handling group.
P3 is for the 2005-2021 Boxster S
and Cayman S, 2011-2012 Boxster
Spyder and Cayman R, 2004-2012
GT3, 2012-2021 991/992 (not
including S or GTS), and 2005-2012
911 S, GTS, and 911 Speedster.
These guys are fun to watch!
P5 is for highly modified or nototherwise-classified
(NOC) street
legal cars, and tire treadwear
ratings are not restricted. This
picks up the 2013-2021 911
Speedster, 911 R, GT3, GT3 RS,
GT2, GT2 RS, Carrera GT, 918
Spyder, etc. We don’t see them
often but wanted to be sure they
had a place to play with us.
P6 is for all race cars or non-street
legal Porsches. We get some club
race cars and Spec Boxster race
cars that fit here.
