Jackie’s work ethic has not.
“I’m really just trying to
focus on my academics and
leading in my extracurricular
activities,” she said.
A junior at Maquoketa High
School, she also is enrolled as
a full-time college student at
Clinton Community College.
Top that off with playing high
school volleyball and basketball
and participating in FFA
and 4-H, she’s still going day
and night. Not surprisingly
she will graduate in 2021 with
a high school diploma and an
associate degree.
Looking back Jackie said, “I
really do miss the dairy barn
because that was one way that
I felt connected to the farm.
I got close to my dad; we always
had good conversations
in the barn.”
She stopped, then continued,

be done on the farm, fences
need fixed, beef cattle need
vaccinated and castrated in the
summer, and we are harvesting
now. I help move things
around in the fields and bring
lunch to the guys, you know,
just small things like that...
there’s always something that
needs to be done in the daily
life of a farm.” n
