The content of this post
surprised me because I show
cattle, and I knew that the
steers were not being harmed
by the use of the show stick;
but what baffled me the most
was how many people had
a genuine hatred towards
livestock farmers, and really
farmers in general.
So many were cursing out
farmers in the comments
and truly believed that they
were harming the animals,
but in reality, it was the exact
opposite. Therefore, we, as
farmers, need to use these
platforms to our advantage to
help stop the spread of this
negativity about the agricultural
industry, to help stop the
one-sided story, and to show
consumers the truth.
The simplest way we
can impact how people see
agriculture is by sharing our
positive experiences with the
public through Facebook,
Twitter, and Instagram. More
than half of the people around
the world use social media in
one way or another.
By sharing our experiences,
we have the potential to
influence so many minds with
a click of our finger. But in
order to do this, we all need
to work together. By sharing
just one picture of an ordinary
moment in your daily
routine, you could spark an
interest in someone who has
never had the pleasure of
experiencing the farm. So,
when you head out to chores
tonight take a moment to
look around, snap a shot of
something that brings you
joy, and share it with those
who follow you. The smallest
action could make the biggest
difference. n
