Our performance is, of necessity, closely tied to the fortunes of the construction industry. During 2009, the construction sub-sector grew by 5.6%, a slower growth compared to the previous year’s figure of 7.8%. The sub-sector expanded with positive contributions from public sector mega-construction projects such as the Norochcholai and Upper Kotmale Power Plants, the <strong>Colombo</strong>-Katunayake and southern expressways and the <strong>Colombo</strong> outer circular highway project, as well as the construction of several flyovers and other rural road-development projects under the Maga Neguma programme. Infrastructure development projects are expected to continue providing opportunities for the construction industry and for suppliers such as ourselves.
