ABSTRACT

The use of adsorbent materials to remove heavy metals, color in industrial

wastewater treatment is applied a lot. In this study, we used pomelo peel as an

agricultural waste for adsorption. First, we analyzed the properties of adsorption

materials by X-ray diffraction (EDX), electron transfer spectroscopy (SEM), (FT-

IR). We then investigated the optimal adsorption of grapefruit crust material for

Cr(III), Cr(VI), Methylene blue under different conditions.

The results showed that adsorption of Cr(III) grape peel adsorbent was the best at

pH=5, adsorption time was 120 minutes, at 30 0 C, adsorption efficiency was

57,44%.

When investigating the adsorption capacity of grapefruit crust material for Cr(VI),

the results showed that grapefruit peel adsorption did not adsorbed Cr(VI).

Therefore, to absorb Cr(VI) we conduct reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) to increase

the absorption efficiency of Cr(VI).

Research results also show that when using pomelo peel as methylene blue

adsorbent, the efficiency of the reaction is highest. Under pH = 10, the adsorption

time was 150 minutes, at 30 0 C the methylene blue adsorption efficiency of the

pomelo peel was 86,78%.

The research has initially confirmed that the adsorption material from pomelo peel,

a popular agricultural waste in Vietnam, has great potential for wastewater

treatment.
