Understanding Your Medicare Options
Once enrolled in Medicare Parts
A and B, many people choose to
add additional coverage to help
pay for expenses not covered by
Original Medicare. There are two
primary options available that
are offered by private insurance
companies:
• Option 1 is to stay with Ori -
ginal Medicare and add a
Medicare supplement and standalone
prescription drug plan. Both
of these plans have premiums and
will help cover out-of-pocket expenses
not covered by Original
Medicare.
• Option 2 is to choose to get
your benefits through a Medicare
Advantage plan (Part C). These plans
combine Original Medicare Parts
A & B, and many come with builtin
prescription drug coverage and
no premium. Medicare Advantage
plans also offer additional benefits
like vision, dental and hearing that
are not covered through Original
Medicare.
we take a deeper look at each
option available to Medicare
beneficiaries. ª
