There are some things we can pull off and others we<br />
just can’t – no matter how much we try.<br />

This should have sent us into<br />
shudders of old school days,<br />
where your club or school netball/<br />
hockey/rugby trackpants had that<br />
tight elastic down the bottom that<br />
sent the pants ballooning around<br />
your legs. Not to mention the<br />
swish-swish-swish sound they<br />
made as you did your warm-up.<br />
Stella McCartney has this way<br />
of turning things that shouldn’t<br />
work into things we somehow<br />
end up wanting. Is it the colour?<br />
Is it because it looks cute with<br />
boots and a blazer? Sigh. We’re<br />
complicated, we know.<br />

Some of you will be clutching at your<br />
pearls in horror at Chinese filmmaker<br />
Chloé Zhao’s choice to wear<br />
sneakers on the red carpet at the<br />
93rd Academy Awards ceremony.<br />
However, there is something about<br />
this whole ensemble that just works.<br />
She looks comfortable – think of that<br />
the next time you’re surreptitiously<br />
jiggling up your strapless bra from<br />
the depth of your navel at a black<br />
tie event. The Hermès knitted<br />
dress is superb and there’s no<br />
pretence. She’s like, “I’m gonna<br />
go pick up my Oscars and<br />
then go for a burger.<br />
You wanna come?”<br />
Froth it up<br />
We like froth, particularly when<br />
teamed with a structured shirt<br />
or top. It’s that juxtaposition,<br />
like when Cinderella decided she didn’t<br />
need anyone to rescue her so she<br />
put her leather jacket on over<br />
her ball gown and sauntered<br />
the heck out of there on<br />
her own, while giving<br />
everyone the bird.<br />
