UPDATE FROM YOUR LOCAL GROUP

Friends of Syke

and Cronkeyshaw

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Friends of Syke

and Cronkeyshaw (FOSAC).

The group was formed by local residents to promote, protect and enhance green

spaces in Syke and Cronkeyshaw.

Since the last update, the Friends have

a new logo and have started some

new projects.

The friends group held a competition

for local children to design a new logo

for FOSAC.

The winner was Amelia Newbury of

the 40th Rochdale Scout Group.

Our chair Tricia Ayrton presented

Amelia with a prize (a £10 voucher) for

coming up with the winning design.

Tricia said: “I am very thankful to all

the children for coming up with some

brilliant designs. It was so hard to

choose. Well done to Amelia for

coming up with an outstanding logo

which are proud to have.”

Another project the Friends

group is kicking off is turning

the old spiral sandpit on Syke

Common into a community

herb garden.

Tricia is pictured with Amelia and Friends member

Richard Lord.

The Council’s Environmental Management have kindly agreed to clear it and fill it

with fresh topsoil and then the friends will plant the herbs in autumn.

The scope of the friends group includes Limersgate from Iron Waters Bridge to

the common and across the common to Heights Lane.

It also includes the entirety of the common (and the pond) from Syke Chapel to

Heights Lane. Finally, the scope includes Syke Wood and the Joy Street Greenway.
