1.3.112 The following objectives apply to all development proposals for Carrigaline. Development within this area must comply<br />

with the General Objectives as set out in the table below.<br />

CL-GO-01<br />

Secure the development of 1,944 new dwellings in Carrigaline from 2020 to 2028 in order to facilitate<br />

the sustainable growth of the town’s population from 15,770 to 20,501 people over the same<br />

period.<br />

Development Boundary<br />

CL-GO-02<br />

The green infrastructure, biodiversity and landscape assets of Carrigaline include its river corridors,<br />

mature trees, wetlands, woodlands, coastal habitats, the Cork Harbour SPA and the Owenboy River<br />

pNHA. New development should be sensitively designed and planned to provide for the protection<br />

of these features and will only be permitted where it is shown that it is compatible with the requirements<br />

of nature conservation directives and with environmental, biodiversity and landscape protection<br />

policies as set out in Volume One Main Policy Material and Volume Two Heritage and Amenity.<br />

Provision for screening or buffering may be necessary where new development is proposed in areas<br />

adjoining the Cork Harbour SPA and adjacent to the Owenboy Estruary including lands within existing<br />

residential/mixed residential and other use areas and existing mixed business/general business/<br />

industrial uses areas.<br />

Urban Expansion Area<br />

Implement the provisions of the Shannonpark Framework Master Plan.<br />

Traffic and Transportation<br />

Support the timely delivery of the M28 motorway by safeguarding the route corridor from inappropriate<br />

development.<br />

Transport and Public Realm<br />

CL-GO-05<br />

Secure public transport improvements including increased frequencies and examine the possibility<br />

of introducing a localised bus service within the town.<br />

Support and implement the provisions of the Carrigaline Transportation and Public Realm Enhancement<br />

Plan.<br />

CL-GO-06<br />

Town Centre Expansion<br />

Support consolidation and expansion of the Town Centre by promoting and prioritising key sites for<br />

regeneration which can fulfil appropriate town centre uses in line with the Public Realm Strategy.<br />

Flood Risk<br />

CL-GO-07<br />

All proposals for development within the areas identified as being at risk of flooding will need to<br />

comply, as appropriate, and with the provisions of the<br />

Ministerial Guidelines – ‘The Planning System and Flood Risk Management’. See<br />
