HEYWOOD IN BLOOM
Heywood In Bloom Welcome
Royal Horticultural Judges
On Thursday 8th July Heywood in Bloom welcomed the Royal Horticultural
Society judges to Heywood. The judges David Bielawski and Steve Lowe enjoyed
a sunny stroll round some of our most attractive areas throughout the town.
Starting their tour at the ELR station then on
to the Fire Station both of which looked very
colourful thanks to some attractive planting. From
there it was a walk-through Hopwood Park to see
the latest improvements to the outdoor area at
the café where a patio is being created. This Park
has a lovely seating area and garden around the
outdoor wooden hut and a large pond. A short
drive to Pilsworth Industrial Park was followed
by a tour of the large industrial park taking in the
beehives and large ponds.
The group then visited Queens Park taking the
opportunity to enjoy a well-earned sit down at the
park café for a much-needed cup of tea/coffee. The
judges remarked on the facilities in the park and
how well used it is. The next stop was the HIB
allotment to talk to the group who have planted up
this year’s vegetables and flowers. The allotment
was looking spectacular and the judges remarked
on how well they had done. A stroll through the
centre of Heywood to see the new garden area
and the new carvings outside of the Civic Centre
followed a visit to the new boat display on Hartley
Street. Having judged the planting in front of
St Lukes Church and the Memorial Gardens we
finished at our headquarters at TOPS. The judges
had a look at the flower displays then gave us
some lovely feedback before departing for home.
We now have a long wait to find out our results
which usually come out in late October.
