Heywood CharitiesFete 2021On Sunday 5th September the Heywood CharitiesCommittee staged the annual Charities Fete in Queens Park.This year’s event saw the Rochdale Borough Mayor arriveaccompanied by the Lee Rigby bike riders who gave him acavalcade to the park. The motor bikes then entered the parkto display the bikes as part of the daylong event.Our Mayor & Mayoress Aasim Rashid along with leader of the councilNeil Emmott gave opening speeches at the outside theatre accompanied byseveral Heywood Councillors. Once the event was officially opened there was anafternoon of music and entertainment provided by Mash Audiovisual and local talent.The mayor then went on to present the winners of the dog show and the winners of the bowlingcompetition with their prizes.The Park welcomed a number of fairground rides and bouncy castles.Throughout the day the ongoing entertainment consisted of a Punchand Judy show, petting farm, dog show, bowling competition, owlsand large birds, grass racing cars, land train and many others.The day went live with a local radio station Roach Valley settingup near the park lodge and transmitting their show throughthe day. Rochdale rock choir did a couple of sections anddrew a large crowd with their lovely harmonies.There was also a large section given to businesses andcharities who set up their stalls along the area in front ofthe park café. The stalls saw a very busy day with throngsof people flocking to play the various games and win prizes.Several stalls found themselves sold out by mid-afternoonbecause the park was so busy. The day was so successful severalstalls have already made bookings for next year’s event.This year’s event had no entry fee so insteadpeople made a donation into collection bucketsaround the park. The money raised will be given to local charitiesfollowing on with tradition.This year’s President Phil Corns said “I’m very proud to havebeen able to work once again with so many hard-workingvolunteers who have pulled together to create yet anotherwonderful family day out. Seeing so many happy faces wasa great reward and we had a lovely sunny day as well!”The Charities Committee wish to thank all those whogave their time to help on the day with special thanksgoing to Heywood Rotary and Friends of Queens Park.This traditional family fun day in the park has been a partof Heywood for 50 years and hopefully will continue to offerthis unique event for many years to come.32To advertise call 07976 289967 or 07974 434793 or email sales@streetwisemag.co.uk
