A SPECTACULAR NEW WEDDING VENUE IN THE HEART OF THE DERBYSHIRE
COUNTRYSIDE HAS RECENTLY WELCOMED ITS FIRST COUPLE
With more than 20 years of experience
in restoring old buildings that have been
neglected and transforming them into
beautiful wedding venues, family-run
Cripps & Co have worked their magic once
again.
Stunning Grangefields is a new wedding
barn situated in the heart of the Derbyshire
countryside, which has become the latest
venue in their impressive portfolio, which
also includes the beautiful Thorpe Garden
at the Thorpe Constantine estate near
Tamworth. Their first couple tied the knot
at the picturesque venue in August.
Grangefields is conveniently located
between Derby and Ashbourne and is
accessed down a long private drive. This
exclusive-use venue has many features which are
typically only seen in five-star hotels – a glass-fronted
show kitchen with a French rotisserie, rotating woodfired
pizza oven and a huge charcoal BBQ as the
centrepiece. Every detail has been thought of from
speakers in the loos (so nobody misses the speeches),
colour changing lights on the dance floor and a stateof-the-art
Funktion-One sound system.
The seven-metre-long oak bar is lit-up with chrome
lights, taken from an old warship, and greenery
hangs from the ceiling, the impressive wall of glass
frames the stunning views out over the Derbyshire
hills.
The old chapel-like ceremony room has more than
150 handmade lead windows, a log fire for the winter
months and hundreds of candles and fairy lights
gives it a magical atmosphere.
Grangefields has been designed with the British
weather in mind – the glass fronted Dutch Barn has
a raised veranda which enables 150 people to have
drinks and canapés in the rain whilst enjoying the
Derbyshire views.
The sheltered courtyard acts as the focal point and is
the stage for the Argentinian Asado (for cooking six
whole lambs), the outdoor ceremony room doubles
up as a bar and the old cow troughs are filled with
ice and drinks. At night, the space is illuminated
with festoon lights, flares and fire pits for toasting
marshmallows.
The food is simple yet exceptional - they buy the
best ingredients, cook them over the open flames
and serve generously. Their in-house wine buyer has
long-standing relationships with artisan winemakers
around Europe, visiting each producer personally
and buying wine directly from the vineyards.
