What attracted you to the R’s
in the first place?
The ambition of the club. I’m young and
I want to achieve things. I want to play
in the Premier League and that’s what
the club want too. We’re not accepting
where we are, we’re really pushing to
do something. Also, the coaching and
development… I’m still at the age where
I need that. There are things I need to
work on every day and the club have the
coaching staff to help me do that.
You headed out on a string of loans
while you were at Burnley. Did they help
your development?
They really helped me but as I got older,
they probably slowed me down. At the
start it was brilliant to experience playing
men’s football at 18, 19. That was great,
and I’d recommend it to any young
player. But as I got to 21, 22, I probably
would have been better off making a
permanent move to a club that believed
in me. I could have done with getting
out earlier than I did rather than go out
on loan every six months. There’s only a
certain amount a loan can do for you and
when you’re changing teams every six
months it can be difficult. I feel I’ve got a
bit of catching up to do as a result.
You might get a bit of stick from the
travelling Blackburn fans tonight - will
that bother you?
No, I’ll love it. There’s a great rivalry
between Blackburn and Burnley, although
the two sides haven’t been anywhere
near each other in the last few years.
