STAFFORDSHIRE AUCTIONEER RICHARD WINTERTON HAS TRANSFORMED AN HISTORIC
TAMWORTH TOWN CENTRE BUILDING INTO A NEW AUCTION HOUSE, BRINGING AUCTIONEERING
BACK TO THE ANCIENT MERCIA CAPITAL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DECADES
Richard Winterton Auctioneers has
launched a new auction house in the
heart of Tamworth, a move which also
secures the future of one of the town
centre’s most-loved buildings.
The family firm’s new premises at 34-
35 Church Street opened last month
and receives consignments straight to
auction 9am-4pm Monday to Friday.
Free valuations by appointment are
also available, with various specialists
on different days, and staff can assist
with enquiries on house clearances and
downsizing solutions.
Originally a 19th century music hall,
the 3,700 sq ft premises has already
started hosting live auctions, with the
debut sale on October 26 – thought to
be the first in Tamworth for decades.
Auctioneer Richard Winterton – a
familiar face from BBC Bargain Hunt
and Dickinson’s Real Deal – said: “It
has been a massive team effort to bring
our project to revitalise this lovely
Grade II listed building to fruition.
“It has long been a dream for us
to expand in Staffordshire and
wonderful to be able to do so in the
ancient capital of Mercia; to be in this
important building too is the icing on
the cake!
“We have a lot of regular clients in the Tamworth
area and they are delighted to have an auction house
on their doorstep.
“We’ve also had some wonderful feedback from local
residents who are over the moon to see the former
Arts Centre full of life once more.”
Valuers have already helped Tammies discover
hidden treasures.
Appointments for jewellery, watches and silver can
be booked for Mondays and Thursdays, with toys
on Tuesdays and general valuations for all types of
THE HISTORIC 3,700 SQ FT
The next Tamworth auction is scheduled to start at
