Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions on why so many of my CED's skip and
jump around? I just replaced the stylus and the disks seem to be in
good shape. Someone wrote once that I should clean the lubricant off
the disks. With what? Is that bad for the disk? Did these disks
always skip, even when they were new? They seem to have an even worse
life expectancy than a audio LP. Any specific cleaning advice would be
appreciated!
Subject: VideoDisc Book
For those who are interested, there was a book published about the
VideoDisc project. The title is "RCA and the VideoDisc - The business
of research" by Margaret B.W. Graham. The book is published by the
Cambridge University Press.
The book is an interesting historical perspective of technology
development as well as the project problems that occured.
One significant issue was in marketing of a video product. The first
players were not stereo and you could not record on them. These were
apparently significant issues with the buying public. On the positive
side the programming was cheap, $15 to $25 vs $75 to $100.
