Lyman Charles Shipley<br />

Roanoke Rapids, NC–The<br />

Appalachian <strong>Hardwood</strong> Manufacturers<br />

Inc. recently reported<br />

they were sad to report the passing<br />

here of Lyman Charles Shipley,<br />

87, on Jan. 17, <strong>2022</strong>. He was<br />

born on September 21, 1934 in<br />

Hyden, KY.<br />

Lyman enlisted in the U.S.<br />

Army after graduating from Weldon<br />

High School in 1952. Prior to leaving for Korea, he<br />

married Louise Rightmyer. His decorations included the<br />

United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal<br />

w/1 Bronze Service Star, <strong>National</strong> Defense Service<br />

Medal, two Overseas Bars and Good Conduct Medal.<br />

After the service Lyman worked for Coastal Lumber<br />

Company in Weldon, NC until retirement.<br />

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louise Rightmyer<br />

Shipley; his daughter, Linda Martin (Brady); his<br />

son, Lyman “Chuck” Shipley, Jr.; his grandchildren,<br />

great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters.<br />

Graveside Services were Jan. 19, <strong>2022</strong> at Cedarwood<br />

Cemetery in Weldon, NC.<br />

Donations may be made in Lyman’s memory to the<br />

Enterprise Baptist Church, 404 Enterprise Road, Littleton,<br />

NC 27850 and the John 3:16 Center, 407 East End<br />

Ave., Littleton, NC 27850.<br />

<strong>Hardwood</strong> Lumberman’s<br />

Club is sad to report the passing<br />

of long-time member Jim Von<br />

Tellrop, Jr. He was proceeded<br />

in death by his son. A graduate<br />

of the University of New Mexico,<br />

most recently, Von Tellrop<br />

worked for Peladeau Lumber as<br />

West Coast salesperson, based<br />

here. Von Tellrop had many interests outside of lumber<br />

sales.<br />

In 1992 he served as President of the Indiana <strong>Hardwood</strong><br />

Lumbermen’s Association. He was part of the<br />

Society of Woodheads Only and enjoyed their regular<br />

gatherings.<br />

Steve Stoufflet of Robinson Lumber Company, a longtime<br />

friend of Von Tellrop, remembers their introduction<br />

in the 1980’s. “I was wearing a sport coat and tie and he<br />

was wearing cut-off jeans and a Three Stooges T-shirt. I<br />

liked Jim right away!”<br />

Von Tellrop was passionate about woodworking and<br />

jazz/blues music. For over 20 years he was Steve Stoufflet’s<br />

house guest for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage<br />

Festival.<br />

Additionally, Von Tellrop tirelessly supported local<br />

school woodworking programs in El Dorado County. He<br />

was named the California Industrial & Technology Education<br />

Association Industry Person of the Year for 2015.<br />

Living in Placerville, he also developed a passion for<br />

wine-making and olive oil. a<br />
