After the death of King Veera Parakrama Narendrasinha, his Mahesi’s brother became the King.
(Author’s Note: As one could see King Veera Parakrama Narendrasinha’s Mahesi was from
Nayakkar race of South India. Hence her brother also a Nayakkar from South India. Technically,
King Veera Parakrama Narendrasinha is the last Sihala King of the country).
Sree Vijaya Rajasiha was a pious King and a devout Buddhist who venerated the word of the
enlightened Buddha. He paid homage to the Dhantha Dhatu every day. He conducted many
was provided by the Orlandas.
(Author’s Note) Valivita Sri Saranankara Mahathera:
New bhikku order was established thanks to the hard labor of Valivita Sri Saranankara Mahathera.
This new order is today known as “Siam Nikaya” and admits people only from one caste.
Ambagahapitiye Gnawimalatissa Thera was rejected since he belongs to Salagama caste. He went to
Burma, ordained, came to Sri Lanka, and started the Amarapura Nikaya in 1803. Unfortunately this
group also excludes people based on their castes. In 1863, Gnabivamsa Dhammasenapati thera went to
Burma, ordained himself, and started the Ramanna Nikaya. This Nikaya accepts people from all castes
true to the spirit of the word of Buddha. Discriminatory practices instituted by Sangharaja Valivita
Saranankara exist even today and some Sinhalese Buddhists are reacting to this discrimination, by
converting to Christianity).
