‘W Magazine’, a man who
made his career ironing out
celebrity wrinkles and who
pioneered a line of skin care
products to protect against
the brutal Florida sun, was 65.
The doctor’s clients included
Madonna, Kelly Ripa and
model Stephanie Seymour.
Miami police ruled his
death a suicide.
Officers responded to a
call placed by John Joseph
Hupert, a friend who was
staying at the Coconut
Grove house with Brandt.
According to the police
report, Hupert was concerned
that the doctor, who was
under psychiatric care for
depression, was suicidal. He
found Brandt hanging from a
yellow cord with a white towel
around his neck in the house
garage around 9:15 a.m. on
a Sunday. He last saw Brandt
alive at about 11:30 p.m. the
previous night.
Five years after his
death, Dr. Brandt’s beauty
empire soldiers on without
its namesake. In New York,
his disciple, Dr. Robert Anolik,
continues to treat each face
as its own canvas. Anolik
wears a white lab coat and
comfortable work shoes to
his office each day; his own
face is lightly lined and a
little tanned. He might refuse
to erase a “forever line” in
someone’s forehead if it will
create too much tightness
around the eyes.
Though the Steven Klein
photo is no longer on display,
Anolik still performs the Y-lifts
and rejuvenating neck
treatments he learned directly
from his mentor. Occasionally,

he’ll play the ‘Baron of Botox’
by making a corny joke or
instructing a patient to “frown”
and then “relax” before
making an artful injection to lift
the tip of the nose.
After a long day, Anolik
might even take the back
stairwell favoured by stars
hoping to avoid the prying
eyes of the public. But he’ll
leave the needles at the
office.
