College set to consult with
BY MICK JENSEN
Ashburton College will consultwith
AshburtonCollege principalRoss
community had beenconsulted and
offeredits feedback.
Abig restructure of NCEA was
being proposed in 2024 andanumber
of schools were considering whether
to do awaywith Level1, and some
had alreadydone so.
‘‘Ourschoolleaders have been
discussing it andstaff are currently
offering their feedbackonwhether
Mr Preece said Ashburton College
had changed its curriculum model
for Year 9and 10 studentsinrecent
The ‘‘innovation’’ model aimed to
betterpreparestudents for the
Therewas aglobal recognitionthat
adifferent set of skills was
necessary, although studentsstill
needed to be literate, numerate and
have core knowledge.
Of the current 11 Year 9classes,
seven offeredinnovationand four
Fromnext yearall students would
learn through innovation, he said.
Mr Preece said attention had now
turned to the relevance of NCEA
Level1,which wastheprimary
driver of Year11.
‘‘If we do decide to drop Level 1it
will create time andspacefor deeper
learning and allow students to study
up for amore meaningful pathway in
Level2and beyond.’’
Level 1did not provide entry into
tertiarystudy or training, whereas
NCEA levels 2and 3did and were
therefore more important.
Currently 87 per cent of students
passed Level 1, Mr Preecesaid.
He said there were arguments for
Stockwater race to close
BY MICKJENSEN
AshburtonDistrict Council has
approved theclosure of astockwater
race in theLongbeachRoad/
Willowby area that was first
considered for closure nearlyfour
years ago.
The race is fedfrom ajunctionat
totaldistance of 1.5km.
It often dries upfor two to three
weeks at atime andisnot seen as a
reliablesourceofstockwater.
Of the six affectedproperty owners,
fivehave consented to theclosure.
Areport recommendingthe closure
proceed was first considered at a
council meeting in July 2018.
Property owner Sheryland Hal
Stivens made apresentation at the
meetingexpressing their concerns for
theloss of bio diversity, freshwater
ecological and aesthetic values
should therace beclosed and the
decision wasmade to keep it open.
They also expressedtheir wish to
retain the historic water race to
provide drainage during big weather
events, to prevent flooding of land
androads.
Duetotheconcernsraised by the
Stivens,Aquatic Ecology Limited was
commissioned to undertakeafull
ecologicalassessmentofthe section
of race to be closed, andidentify
any ecological values and
recommendationsifrequired.
The assessment report
concluded theecologicalvalues
Sixrecommendations
included the relocationofany
closure proceed.
beverage outlets including Joe’s
Garage, Sal’s Pizza and Coffee
Culturewith two more spaces to fill.
Themain building is completely
enclosed and Sally said they are
fitting out the ventilation system and
working on the entrance. ‘‘The
entrance wayiscomplex, getting that
closedinisquite alot of work, this is
all veryspecifictoKmart andwhat
they want.’’
An electric vehicle station will be
includedonsite with provisionfor
six vehicles.
The closure will also notimpact
detrimentally on drainage or storm
waterandthe affected parties will be
requestedtoleave the race as aswale.
Councillors Angus McKay and
RodgerLetham said agood ecological
report had been written anda
thoroughprocess had been followed
by council.
It was time to move on with the race
closure,bothsaid.
Councillor Leen Braam said he
thought it unfair to make adecision
without the Stivens beingatthe
meeting.
The couple had notbeen informed
by council thewater race closure was
to be discussed and he believed that
was unfair.
Historic treasures found
Aclay smoking pipe made in
France, depicting ascene
from an 1857 rebellion in
India, is one of the
thousands of historic
treasures found under the
site of The Court Theatre's
new home in Christchurch.
Archaeology firm
Underground Overground
Archaeology, which includes
artefact specialist and
formerAshburtonian Clara
Watson, has been working
with Christchurch City
Council contractors to
excavate the area, which will
be the theatre's new home in
the Performing Arts
Precinct.
Intact gin and soda bottles,
marbles, glass beads, abone
toothbrush, currency that
could only be used in
Christchurch, apit of old
leather shoes, brick lined
wells, building remains,
latrines, infilled gullies,
drains, and cesspits have all
been discovered under the
ground on the corner of
Colombo and Gloucester Sts.
‘‘The majority of
archaeological features
identified, and artefacts
recovered appear to date to
the 1850s and 1860s, which is
relatively early for
Christchurch European
archaeological sites,’’ Clara
said.
‘‘Most others in the city
tend to date alittle later than
this.
‘‘The site is also
interesting in that it is
commercial rather than
domestic in use, which again
is less common in
Christchurch.
‘‘There’s alot we can look
at and learn about how
people lived.’’
The section of Colombo St
was largely aboutique
shopping area with afew
residential homes 170 years
ago.
‘‘The items are now being
washed and analysed, we
still have alot of work to do
before we can fill in how
these items got there,’’ she
said.
The clay smoking pipe,
which depicts aman
attacking awoman while her
child lays dead at her feet,
was manufactured by the
French pipe manufacturing
firm L. Fiolet and depicts a
European view of the 1857
Indian Mutiny.
The archaeologists are
now working on how the
Frenchmade pipe, which
was inspired by events in
India, ended up in
Christchurch.
‘‘There is no evidence that
the pipe has been smoked,
and one possibility is that,
due to the very graphic and
confronting design of the
pipe, nobody wanted to
purchase it and the store
owner actually dumped it as
part of unsold stock,’’ Clara
said.
These questions will be
part of the ongoing analysis
of the material from the site.
The site was unique due to
the sheer number of items
that were found, and how
well they had been
preserved under the ground.
About 55 boxes containing
thousands of artefacts have
been taken from the site.
Construction of The Court
Theatre is expected to start
in July. The threestorey
building will have a375seat
auditorium, a120seat family
theatre and an education
studio, front of house bars,
restaurant and box office.
Road funds
www.ashburtoncourier.co.nz
Liz enjoys course experience
AshburtonDistrict councillors have approved
additional maintenance funds of$300,000 to
undertake extra road maintenance on failed
sections of the roadingnetwork before the
winter season.
There is insufficient funding in the 2021/22
financial year to complete the remaining heavy
maintenance programme and funding will be
taken from the Forestry Reserve fund.
The maintenance work will involve
stabilisation repairs to areas of failed pavement.
The contractor has indicated that additional
resources can be made available in the next few
weeks to do the work.
The stabilised repairs involve milling the
existing pavement to adepth of up to 150mm,
adding cement as stabiliser and shaping and
compacting the material in preparation for chip
sealing.
Stabilised repairs improve the existing
pavement material as opposed to adigout
repair which requires removal of the existing
pavement and new material being placed,
shaped and compacted.
The funding will cover the cost of about
6700m2 of repairs.
Councillors also approved the inclusion of $1.7
million fromthe forestry reserve intothe
roading renewal budgetinthedraft Annual Plan
2022/23, which willbeconsulted on with the
Women’s rugby
set to grow
Kirsty Arps has been appointed
Mid Canterbury’s newWomen’s
Rugby Development Officer.
The Mid Canterbury localwas
akeenrugby player in her youth,
and had progressed fromplaying
into coaching and development
roles.
She believes with big events
happening on New Zealand’s
doorstep will be akey for
attractingnew talent to the game
because‘‘the girls can see there
is something for them to aspire
to’’.
NewZealandhas the Super
Rugby Aupiki professional
women’s rugby competition and
is also hosting theWomen's
Rugby WorldCup this year and
Kirsty is sure these exciting
events will encourage more
female players to the game and
continuetogrow women's rugby
across the country.
She was drawn to the rolein
part because shehas three
daughters,two of whom are
already playing rugby forthe
Tinwald Club and saw it as an
opportunitytohelp grow the
game for the younger generation
of playersand to create pathways
for women's rugbyinthe region
to progressto. The woman's game
has beenbooming in terms of
popularity over the pastfew
years and Kirsty believes
numbers were increasing as
more mainstreammedia
attention was focused on the
women'sgame.
The Super Rugby competition
and the World Cupare providing
alot of excitementand interest
and now is the timeto capitalize
on the coverage and attention
they are receiving.
Kirstyhopes to see an even
biggerincrease in numbers
acrossall facets of women's
rugby,from playing numbersto
more women being involved in
coachingand refereeing.
She has agoal to make sure
there are enough players locally
to have aMid Canterbury
Women's Rugby teamand for
them to be able to play at all the
tournaments available for them.
He kept his nerveonthe last
Skills from the bowls green,
Bensdorp’s goal over the
RestorativePractice-Living the AshColl Way
One of the positive shifts I have noticed in
education, from when Iattended high school, is
howconflictisresolved within aschool context.
Specifically,the shiftfrompredominantly correcting
behaviour through punitive interventions: eg:
detentions,stand-downs and suspensions; towards
the more holistic approach that is restorative
practice.
The ‘Restorative’ process is away of building, maintaining, restoring
and sustaining relationships, and is dependent upon asocial climate
thatisreparativerather than punitive.
We,atAshburtonCollege,continue to strivetoapply RestorativePractice
through our every-day interactions with students/staff to deal with
conflictwithin our kura.
Although punitive interventions remain active inschool contexts (ie: for
serious misconduct), we apply restorativepracticeasour default method
of resolving conflict. This is because we see our students make positive
changes to behaviour when we resolve issues with them, rather than to
them or for them (Wachtel, 2005).
We are now seeing restorative practice adopted invarious areas such
as workplace disputes, family mediation and human rights advocacy, to
name afew.
By‘living’restorativepracticeinschool,students will benefit in beingable
to deal with conflictlong aftertheir time at AshColl.
We areveryfortunate to have theservices of AlbanyPesetaSeumanutafa
and Mercy Seiuli from Tama Mai Saute Dance Academy, who come to
Ashburton College to tutor thirty-plus of our students through Pacific
dance.
Tama MaiSauteDanceAcademyisbased in Christchurch with apurpose
to ‘upliftthe well-being of Pacific Peoplesand instil asense of belonging
throughculturalconnectedness’.
This opportunity couldn’t have come at abetter time as Polyfest, which
is held in Hagley Park, Christchurch, was cancelled for this year due to
COVIDrestrictions.
Albany and Mercy tutor our students every Thursday for one hour and,
from what Ihave seen, our students are thoroughly enjoying the ability
to connect with their culturethroughdance.
We are now at apoint where wehave aconsistent group of students
attending who are working towards performing at ‘Sau Ia-fest' which is
Quinn McDowell got an early breakthrough when he removed Lincoln’s
opener for aduck, but then Lincoln put a68-run partnership together.
James Reid came to the bowling crease and removedthree Lincoln batters
in the space oftwo overs. From there, AshColl picked up constant wickets,
with Harry Hayman bowling in the middle overs to put pressure onand
keeping the run rate low. This helped produce2runouts forLincoln to finish
their 35 overs at 157 for 9. Bowling achievements were Quinn McDowell
(1 for 11), James Reid (3 for 13), George King (2 for 11) and Shean Nathan
Caramonte (1 for13).
Kevin concluded that, overall, this was agreat first half of the season
especially considering all but one team member areYear 9students. This
augers well forthe next season.
BoardofTrustees News ...
‘New Normal?’
In my newsletter at the end of last year I
mentioned that we were looking forward toa
‘new normal’ 2022. Well, itlooks like disrupted
schooling is the new normal. Once again, we
have had COVID at the forefrontofour mindsas
we startthe new year.
Iwould like to commend the students for their
compliancewith thenew rulesthatgowith the
‘new normal’this year. Weall know thatwearing masks all dayisnot the
ideal in aclassroom but, hopefully, ithas kept some of us alittle safer
from COVID.
StudentAchievement
One of the first agenda items the Board has included, at the beginning
of each year, is to review the NCEA results from the previous year. The
achievement results from last year were very pleasing, especially in light
of the disruptionsatthe end of the year.
Ibelieveour students became very focused on whattheyneeded to do
to achieve their NCEA level and did it successfully. The only part ofthis
thatwasn’t as idealwas the number of Merit or Excellence endorsements
gained. These are not where wewould like them tobeand reviewing
how toachieve anincrease will be afocus for the Board and Staff this
year.
NewStaff
We have anumber of new staff whohavejoined us this year. Wewelcome
them all to AshColl and hope thattheyenjoytheir time here. It is always
greattoget new people with new ideas into our school.
Our teaching and support staff are obviously ahuge part ofour school
andwevalue all the backgroundsand experiences they bring with them.
We also welcome Deputy Principal Hannibal Ikahihifo to our Senior
Leadership Team.
Cellphones
Atopic that has been under media spotlight recently is the place of
cellphones in schools.
Options are currently being considered by our Board but we are taking
our time compiling the information we need, sothat wemake the right
decision for our school. Weare aware that there are other schools that
have removed them completely. However, every school has adifferent
make-up and different challenges. Therefore, it is important weensure
that, by making adecision, we are not going to be disadvantaging
students.
Iwishall our studentsafantastic 2022, with the hope thatwehaveseen
the last of the education disruption for this year (or will that befamous
last words!)
Amassive thank you was given for sponsoring the students to go on this
amazing trip, one thatthey have said they will remember forever.
Anna said –‘Let metake you through the amazing experience weall had
while being at the Boyle RiverLeadership Camp.
The first day wespent getting to know one another and earning each
other's trust, through doing aseries of low ropes activities. Welearnt that
we areall differentinmanyways but not to judge each other by whatison
the outside. Wealso learnt that, in the outdoors, you should always leave
everything exactly howyou found it.
(Pictured right):
Swamp
team-building
activity.
Thewalk out from the Nina Hut wasalot of fun. We got to seeevenmore
amazing views, bushwacking as therewas no track, and crossing ahandful
of rivers. These rivers were quite fast-flowing so we learnt how to do river
crossings. One of them wassodeepand fast we had to cross in agroup of
four, but luckily all of us were able to make it across pretty much dry and
without getting swept away with big heavy packs on our backs.
That nightwespent time recovering from our big walk!
(Pictured left):
Embarking on the
rivercrossing.
Day four was byfar my favourite. We
spent the whole day rock climbing and
abseiling. Climbing on arock face was
challenging, but so much fun. Jorja and
Iboth jumped straight into the hardest
climb. Idefinitely know that, when Igot
around three quarters up to the top, I
really felt like giving up,but Ihad to learn
to trust my body and myself. You really
had to trust your feet were supporting
you touse what upper body strength
you had to try and find aspot to grab
onto.Webothmadeittothe top, and the
viewfromthe topwas amazing.
(Pictured right): Rock face for climbing
and abseiling.
Next was abseiling, where weclimbed
up amassive hill to get to the top of
acliff that weabseiled down, 40 metres over water. This is something we
all definitely talked about everyday as it was terrifying, but the feeling of
getting to the ground wassoamazingand we all felt so accomplished.
That night wehad dinner and listened to music and all had agreat time
singing along together.
That brings us to the last day where wespent the day doing high ropes.
Jorja and Iboth conquered
acourse called the virtual
jungle gym. This was very
challenging and required
working with someone else
to get to the top, but we
both made it up. We also
both did the leap of faith
and completed it.
the high ropes.
Matthew Pearce and Zane Cameron.
(Pictured below, front to back): Girls’ Under 16 Coxed Four: Mia Chambers,
Isla Connelly-Whyte,Chloe Braas,SiennaSkilling,Honor Bradford(Cox).
The first night we did an activity called night-line, where we were
blindfolded, with helmets on. We had to walk through aforest in asingle line
with one hand on the person in frontofusand the other hand on aropethat
led us around an almost obstaclelike
course. Itwas very scary, but
enjoyable, and we really had to
work together to get around,taking
around fortyminutes to complete.
On day two we set off on an
overnight tramp through the Nina
Valley (pictured left) to spend the
night at Nina Hut. After around
five hours walking through mud,
water and seeing amazing views
we arrived atthe hut, which had
a long drop loo. On arrival we
settled in and made dinner, which
was comprised of freeze-dried
meals. This was very interesting
and definitely a big learning
experience, as most of us added
toomuch waterand our roast chicken turned into soup!
Ispent the nightinatentwith twoothers, while everyone else slept in the
hut. But,little did we know, the tent was pitched in averybad placeand, due
to the heavyrain, the tent leaked and Iwoke up at 3:00am with apuddle in
my sleeping bag.Wepacked up our things and spentthe nightfreezing on
the hut floor.
Overall the five days wespent away was absolutely amazing, and we still
talk about it everyday and about howmuch we miss it’.
In their appreciation to Rotary, the course was described as an amazing
adventure.
Jack concludedhis presentation summarising whathehad
learnt –
Personal Leadership: ‘Reaching my owngoals and pushing myself out
of my boundaries’.
Peer Leadership: ‘Helping others reach their goals, and reaching a
goal as ateam’.
PositiveAttitude: ‘How much an attitude/outlook can affect a
situation outcome’.
And, as aHead Student: ‘Using my experienceinmylife, in real situations’.

The introduction of My Vaccine Pass
who worked in or visited Councilfacilities
had to be vaccinated.
Mayor Neil Brown said there had been
someinitial angst aboutthe useofvaccine
passes to visit council facilities, but the
decision wasaccepted by the community
on the whole.
“Ashburton District ishighly vaccinated,
with98per cent of residentsaged12and
over double vaxxed and 74per cent of
those 18 and overboosted.”
He said that in the current Omicron
outbreak, 9.5 per cent ofthe district had
tested positive, with around twoper cent
of the population an activecase.
“Council’s own workforce reflected that
percentage, with 10 per cent of staff
affected.
"Going forward, wearing masks in indoor
public settings is still required and we
Volunteersinvited to weed out pinepests
Ashburton DistrictCouncilisinviting
members ofthe community to take
part in awilding pine and rowans
removal day at Lake Camp on
Saturday 23 April, as part of work to
control invasive weeds around the
lake.
Weed control days have been held
annually to eradicate the introduced
species and it is important to keep the
positiveworkgoing.
Community Services Group Manager
SteveFabishsaid the efforts of volunteers
were vital to success in eradicating wilding
trees.
“We’re very appreciative ofmembers of
the community who come along to help
out. We’dlove to see morepeople join us
again on 23 April to getrid of these weeds.”
Wilding pines or conifers areconsidered a
pestbecause theygrowdensely,shading
out native species and outcompeting
them forwaterand nutrients.
The rowan tree was once widely planted
for protection against witches and spirits
in Britain and Ireland –its redberries were
believedtowardoffevil –but in ourpartof
theworld, it has becomeathreat.Rowan,
part of thewider rose family, can smother
Mr Fabish said invasive introduced tree
specieslikewilding pinesand rowans had
little or no ecological benefit, and if left
unchecked could quickly take over large
expansesofthe highcountry.
“These tree species represent amajor
threat to natural ecosystems, biodiversity
and landscape values.”
Hampstead win finals
Mid Canterbury Softball finals fever hit
Argyle Park last weekend in front of
enthusiastic crowds.
In the senior mixed competition reigning
champions Hampstead Heat had a
impressive second innings run which saw
them hold the lead against Demons Rebels
and eventually secure the title 62.
It was their third consecutive title.
Hampstead’s Mark Cousins (pictured top)
was best batter of the game getting two runs
from three bats; and pitchers Ben Waipouri
(Hampstead) got five strike outs, but racked
up one run against him and three walks, and
Dan Flanagan (Demons) got nine strike outs,
but had three runs against him and three
walks.
At the start of the first innings Demons got
their speedster Tate Dryland on base and
around the bases to score. The youngster was
the only one to score from either team in the
first innings putting the Demons ahead 10.
However in the second innings Brent
Christie got the ball rolling for Hampstead
by getting home.
He was quickly followed by Natalie
Corbett, Kyle Paul, Russell Laxton and Mark
Cousins which put Hampstead in the lead
51.
In the third innings Liam Stoliker put one
on the board for the Demons to close the gap
52.
But the fourth innings saw Hampstead’s
Mark Cousins the only one to score and his
team take the win 62. Other results from
finals day: Under 17s Fairfield beat
Hampstead Allstars 82, and in the Under 13s
Armadillo Panthers beat Fairfield 153.
March meeting: Kath Woodley spoke on
“How Family Researchers Think”.She asks
“Whatsparks the interest?” Widespread
knownconnections give research paths. Old
formalfamily photographs show family
groupings, with placement of people indicating
relationships. Eras and occasions can be
intelligently guessed by dress fashions,armed
forcesuniform details, hairstyles, family
likenesses; all telling storiesofpast lives.
Location and weather may give the season.
Working from the known to the unknown
provides answers sources are many: Indirect
records such as Papers Past, censusrecords,
schools, church records.Even negative
findings such as non-appearance in
subsequent official records can be useful. Try
Birth, Death and Marriage certificates (often
wrong in details); online resources such as
Ancestry.com, Papers Past and Soundex;
family diaries, immigration and land records.
Spellings can be questioned. Family re-unions
can track and unite families, but can also have
mistakenly regrettable provenance of the
purported ancestor. Researchers may not
reach aconclusion, but there is real joy in
finding stories, and people of the past. We
need to know where we come from, to know
where we are going. Our next speakeronApril
26th is Jenny Howarth “The Artists of WW1”.
Ashburton Electronic Organ & Keyboard
Club
On awet and cool night, asmall but
appreciative audience had the pleasure of
attending club night,organised by the
keyboard group. Karen Balderstone played
some beautiful piano pieces while people
arrived, and went from tune to tune, with
beautiful rolls up the keyboard -sograceful!
Irene thenaccompanied Karen for afew
tunes, giving some lovely harmony -wish Ihad
my dancing shoes on!
Michael started offthe night with When I
Take My Sugar to Tea, using atap dance
swing style, highlighting Michael’s ability to
change settingstocreate some great music!
Then Michael played It Don’t Mean aThing,
which had us journey to 1930s New York,
followed by Amigos Para Siempre, which
translates to Friends for Life.
Rose was next up playing My Elusive
Dreams /Magic Moments, which was agreat
upbeat choice taking us away from the cares
of the day. The next bracket was Ninety-Nine
Ways /Butterfly with acountry swing,
resulting in several people swayingback and
forth. Rose, you alwayssmile and sing as you
play; it is lovely to see the joy music can bring.
The keyboard group played Nola, which
produced abig band sound with the
keyboards really complimenting each other.
Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly was arousing,
toe tapping tune followed by Why Did It Have
to Be Me, apopular ABBA song that was
fabulous to hear.
Acreation by Ashburton
Woodworkers
Irene had her agile fingers whizzingover
her piano accordion;she makes it lookso
easy! Her first tune was The Whistling Negro
by J.B Kok, which was comprised of different
parts and sounded beautiful. Irene’s second
tune, afast waltz called Alpine Slope,
certainly had the sound of Europe about it,
while Balkan Hills made me think of Scotland.
Janet played An Apple Blossom Wedding,
creating alight, bouncy spring-like tune. This
was followed up with Don’t Break the Heart
that Loves You /Breaking in aBrand-New
Broken Heart, which sounded fantastic and
had everyone humming, which just shows
you can’t judge asong by its heartbreak title!
Iris played ALittle on The Lonely Side, a
graceful foxtrot, using the keyboard effects to
create afabulous tune. Iris says she was 16
when she and every other teenage girl, fell in
love with Pat Boone, and went on to play his
song Why Baby Why on her bass ukulele,
accompanying the recorded tune on her
keyboard –soclever. The bass gave a
fabulous depth to the tune!
The keyboard group went on to play an
exoticrhumba in Dark Moon, with beautiful
harmonizing, which led into an upbeat version
of Tweedle Dee. Michael came back with a
county style Brown Eyed Girl followed by
Wish You Were Here, where Michael had his
keyboard create the sound of an organ; very
effective. His final tune was the big-band
sound of Mack the Knife. The keyboard group
finished off the night with aCool, Cool, Cool
Evening, You’re 16 and another ABBA hit,
Hasta Manana, all of which had the audience
singing along. Thanks to everyone for agreat
night’s entertainment.
RED MEAT EXPORTS
Strong export returns for New
Zealand redmeat will face pressure
in the coming months due to labour
shortages and supply chain
disruption, the Meat Industry
Association (MIA) says. The industry
exported products worth $1.1 billion
during February 2022, with increases
in value to all major markets. Current
strong meat prices were
compensatingfor adrop in the
volume of exports, withsheepmeat
volumes down 11 per cent and beef
down seven per cent compared to
February 2021. However
absenteeism in processing plants
due to covid is adding industry
pressure on top of labour shortages
and global logistics challenges. The
overall value of exports to China
increased by four per centto$406m
during February, the United States
was up 34 per cent to $238mand the
UK 28 per cent to $66m.
Notice for consultation onproposed Enrolment
Scheme amendment for Villa Maria College
The Ministry of Education has identified that Villa Maria College
is likely to continue to experience asituation where there is more
demand for enrolments than there are places available within
the maximum roll and has given the school board notice of this.
This is due to recently redrawn parish boundaries. Please note
that there was previous consultation on aproposed enrolment
scheme change for Villa Maria College in 2021. This current
proposal includes information from the 2021 proposal as well as
additional information taken from feedback during the previous
consultation round.
After engagement with the Board, we have developed another
proposed enrolment scheme amendment for Villa Maria College
under the Education and Training Act 2020.
As part of this process, we are consulting with the school’s
community and with people living in the area for which the
school is areasonably convenient school.
Students will be able to enrol as per the criteria listed in the
proposed enrolment scheme.
Acopy of the proposed enrolment scheme is available at https://
consultation.education.govt.nz/education/villa-maria-collegeenrolment-scheme-amendment2022
If you have any feedback about the proposed enrolment
scheme, please visit the website, read the information and
complete the survey before 29 April 2022.
