New World goes online<br />

NewWorld<strong>Ashburton</strong> is on<br />

tracktolaunch it’s newonline<br />

shoppingservicenext week.<br />

Foodstuffs has been rolling<br />

outthe service throughout the<br />

SouthIsland,starting in<br />

Christchurch with <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />

beingthe latest store to offer<br />

onlineshopping.<br />

NewWorld <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />

owner/operators Jeremy and<br />

EmmaRooneyhadput<br />

together adedicated team to<br />

operate the service.<br />

‘‘It’s awhole new team<br />

including afew current staff<br />

that were moved to online,<br />

basically it is anew<br />

department and team for us,<br />

which is really exciting,’’ the<br />

couple said.<br />

The online shoppingteam<br />

have hadspecific training,<br />

spent time in the store getting<br />

to know the layout and will<br />

have atrial run delivering to<br />

friends and family before<br />

launching.<br />

The store plans to offer<br />

onlineshopping fromnext<br />

week, ‘‘but with covid there<br />

could be alittle bitof<br />

movement withthe launch<br />

date.’’<br />

customers. ‘‘With our click and<br />

collect service we have a<br />

concierge who will bring the<br />

groceries out to your car, so we<br />

are justtrying replicate the<br />

servicewehave in store,’’ she<br />

said.<br />

The launch of online<br />

shoppingisgoodtiming with<br />

people self isolating, Jeremy<br />

said. It could have been<br />

sooner, but was worth the wait<br />

to get it right.<br />

‘‘We’rejust excited to be<br />

able offer ourcustomers<br />

something that they have been<br />

wanting for along time,’’he<br />

said.<br />

came to the store to take<br />

photosofproducts not already<br />

on the New World site. ‘‘So<br />

peoplecan order those special<br />

items that youcan only get at<br />

our store,’’ Emma said.<br />

Theonline shopping<br />

deliverywill initially be<br />

available to those in <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />

and Lake Hood. ‘‘Inacouple of<br />

months, when thesecond<br />

vehicle arrives, we will be<br />

expandingtoMethven, Rakaia<br />

and possibly Geraldine,’’<br />

Fishscreen tour<br />

Membersofthe public have the<br />

chance to getupclose to agiant<br />

state­of­the­art fishscreen being<br />

installed at theKlondyke intake<br />

of theRangitataDiversionRace,<br />

near the Rangitata River.<br />

An open day, from10amto<br />

3pm, isplanned for April 10 and<br />

free tickets can be booked online<br />

Thescreen,which comprises<br />

of seven 8.5metre­long screen<br />

sections, is part of a$17.2million<br />

project by water supply company<br />

RangitataDiversion Race (RDR)<br />

Management Ltd to protect<br />

salmon,trout andnative fish<br />

stocks inthe river.<br />

Thefishscreen will keep the<br />

fish stocks out of theRDR’s<br />

canaland in the river. The seven<br />

cylindricalscreens, each<br />

measuring2.1m in diameter,<br />

make up the mechanical screen<br />

which arrivedfrom Australia.<br />

its kind in theworld. Work is on<br />

track for itsMay <strong>2022</strong> connection<br />

to the canal;the end of the<br />
