Hampstead win finals
Mid Canterbury Softball finals fever hit
Argyle Park last weekend in front of
enthusiastic crowds.
In the senior mixed competition reigning
champions Hampstead Heat had a
impressive second innings run which saw
them hold the lead against Demons Rebels
and eventually secure the title 62.
It was their third consecutive title.
Hampstead’s Mark Cousins (pictured top)
was best batter of the game getting two runs
from three bats; and pitchers Ben Waipouri
(Hampstead) got five strike outs, but racked
up one run against him and three walks, and
Dan Flanagan (Demons) got nine strike outs,
but had three runs against him and three
walks.
At the start of the first innings Demons got
their speedster Tate Dryland on base and
around the bases to score. The youngster was
the only one to score from either team in the
first innings putting the Demons ahead 10.
However in the second innings Brent
Christie got the ball rolling for Hampstead
by getting home.
He was quickly followed by Natalie
Corbett, Kyle Paul, Russell Laxton and Mark
Cousins which put Hampstead in the lead
51.
In the third innings Liam Stoliker put one
on the board for the Demons to close the gap
52.
But the fourth innings saw Hampstead’s
Mark Cousins the only one to score and his
team take the win 62. Other results from
finals day: Under 17s Fairfield beat
Hampstead Allstars 82, and in the Under 13s
Armadillo Panthers beat Fairfield 153.
