Taus Makhacheva: A <strong>Space</strong> of<br />

Celebration<br />

Narrat<strong>in</strong>g social and cultural life <strong>in</strong> post-Soviet Dagestan, Russian<br />

artist Taus Makhacheva's complex stag<strong>in</strong>gs will be shown <strong>in</strong> Dubai<br />

for <strong>the</strong> first time as part of <strong>the</strong> artist's retrospective at Jameel Arts<br />

Centre. Cultural au<strong>the</strong>nticity and historical fluctuations are explored<br />

across humorous but observant video works and <strong>in</strong>stallations<br />

depict<strong>in</strong>g faulty gymnast tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g grounds, Soviet-era circuses,<br />

wedd<strong>in</strong>g halls, and suspended mounta<strong>in</strong> ranges. Makhacheva's<br />

Superhero Sight<strong>in</strong>g Society (2019) project, for <strong>in</strong>stance, ga<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

voices from around <strong>the</strong> world attest<strong>in</strong>g to superhero sight<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />

evok<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> figures of power that emerge <strong>in</strong> response to specific<br />

landscapes and environments.<br />

Hashel Al Lamki: Sensu Lato<br />

Emirati pa<strong>in</strong>ter Hashel Al Lamki's vivid mounta<strong>in</strong>scapes<br />

render <strong>the</strong> social and psychological elements of<br />

landscape, along with concerns for local fauna and<br />

flora, animal and land migration, and <strong>the</strong> relationship<br />

between humans and <strong>the</strong>ir environments. Sensu Lato will<br />

feature new pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs and mix-media works <strong>in</strong>spired by<br />

Al Lamki's ongo<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> Jebel Hafeet, depict<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

mounta<strong>in</strong> range <strong>in</strong> strik<strong>in</strong>g tones <strong>in</strong> response to ecological<br />

changes <strong>in</strong> region.<br />

Par<strong>the</strong>nogenesis<br />

Known for immersive, surrealist works<br />

across pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g, performance, and<br />

animation, <strong>the</strong> 13-year collaboration<br />

between Ram<strong>in</strong> Haerizadeh,<br />

Rokni Haerizadeh, and Hesam<br />

Rahmanian has shaped networks<br />

of dialogue over time, which extend<br />

<strong>in</strong>to Par<strong>the</strong>nogenesis. Offered as a<br />

landscape, Par<strong>the</strong>nogenesis traces<br />

<strong>the</strong> artwork's evolution <strong>in</strong> relation to<br />

<strong>the</strong> artists' engagement with o<strong>the</strong>rs,<br />

draw<strong>in</strong>g from previous conversations<br />

with o<strong>the</strong>r artists, collaborators, and<br />

visitors.<br />
