Jacob Davidson is among the pitching rotation named in an Auckland-dominated 20-strong tour party for a three-match series to determine Oceania’s representative at the tournament to be held in Taipei, Taiwan in October. Te Ahu Wall, who also pitches for the Braves, is among five non-travelling alternates. The team assembled in Auckland on Monday, with the series starting in Canberra on Friday. Davidson, 19, has also represented New Zealand at softball and played baseball with the Christchurch Astros since under-13 level. His father Neil Davidson then established the Selwyn Braves about five years ago. Hornby, Davidson relished the opportunity to potentially play at a World Cup. “I don’t know how to describe it. I just love the game, anything’s exciting, it just excites me to play,” he said. Davidson is also part of the Auckland Tuatara development programme, New Zealand’s representative in the Australian Baseball League. Braves secretary Monique Kharkrang said the duo’s selection capped a successful season for the Rolleston-based club. “We just couldn’t be more proud. It is such an enormous achievement and baseball can open so many doors for them,” she said. Davidson and Wall are joined by another locallybased player, Josh Wilson, a pitcher for the Christchurch Astros Black team beaten 10-6 by the Braves in the premier championship final on April 3.
