HOME PROFESSIONALS
Back to nature –
home trends for 2022
Reconnecting with
nature is just one of the
latest trends in interior
design. Bringing natural
elements into kitchens
and bathroom with walls,
ceilings, and floors finished
in raw timber, stone, and
concrete is influenced by
the European love of the
outdoors in both aesthetics
and lifestyle.
Earthy Tones
Colour trends lend
towards nature with earthy shades in
olive green, caramel, tan, ochre, clay
and chocolate browns. Timbers in
dark browns are making a comeback
too. Brown on brown provides a
retro look and can be teamed with
soft creams. Add pops of colour to
these earthy tones in combinations
such as ochre and aqua or for a
bolder, vibrant Mediterranean look
introduce yellow, red or blue.
Objects of desire
Handcrafted artisan objects
whether decorative or for everyday
use give a home that wonderful
feeling of nostalgia, comfort and
simplicity. Buy once and buy well is
a concept to consider when buying
new or second hand, whether it is
tactile piece of pottery, 100% linen
for the bed, a hand-crafted designer
chair, or an original painting. Look
for items that provide connectivity
to your family or the world around
you. It could be as simple as bringing
your grandmother’s old quilt out of
storage or purchasing a handmade
quilt crafted by women in India. Find
items that ground you and surround
yourself only with those things that
make you happy and that you love
with a passion.
Shape, line and style
Geometrics, symmetry, curves and
zigzags are everywhere in design
this year both indoors and outdoors
– kitchens, bathrooms, flooring,
pavement, and decking. Slim line
finger ‘kit kat’ tiles are proving a
popular elegant design element on
kitchen splash backs, bathroom walls
and are an ideal complement for the
soft, organic curves of a feature wall.
Contemporary style
High ceilings and large windows
are softened by floor-to-ceiling sheer
curtains. Sheers that can be pulled
back to let the sun stream in; sheers
that provide privacy when needed;
sheers that provide a soft diffused
light throughout the day and sheers
that billow softly in the breeze
when a door or window is opened.
Whatever the reason for having
sheer curtains in your home, there
is now a beautiful range of modern
fabrics to choose from to enhance
your dècor.
