Palmas Academy Student...
RECEIVED AN AWARD!
at the Metropolitan Regional Science & Engineering Fair
The Palmas Academy students
participated in the Metropolitan
Regional Science and Engineering
Fair for the fourth consecutive
year under the direction of
Dr. Sonia Villaverde, a science
teacher at TPA. Fifteen projects
were selected as finalists by their
teacher; these nineteen students
went to the Science Fair on Tuesday,
March 1st, at the Polytechnic
University in San Juan to present
their projects in one of the most
prestigious judged events on the
island. The award ceremony was
held on Saturday, March 5th, and
every student of the Palmas Academy
who participated received
an award. Isabel Vega sang the
national anthem and was accompanied
by Carolina Berrios on the
piano. The awards won by the TPA
students are the following: In the
category of Behavioral Sciences,
Isabel Vega (11th) won 1st place
and the US Navy: Office of Naval
Research Award, Alejandro Caballero
and Juan Carlos Devarie
(11th) won 3rd place and the Best
Set Up Award, Sergio Acevedo
and Marcelo Díaz Alvarado (11th)
2nd place, Savian Molina (11th)
2nd place, Amanda Perez (9th)
2nd place, Alanis Morales (9th)
2nd place, Gian Rosario (9th) 2nd
place, and Stephanie Garcia (9th)
earned 4th place. In the category
of Health and Medicine Bryanna
Bermudez (9th) earned 2nd
place. In the category of Botany
Carolina Berrios and Alexandra
Solis (11th) earned 2nd place. In
the category of Technology Gabriel
Negron and Gabriela Martinez
(11th) earned 2nd place. In the
category of Microbiology Isabella
Ramos (9th) earned 2nd place. In
the category of Environmental Science
Astrid Lázaro (9th) earned 1st
place and the Air Force Research
Laboratory Excellence in Science
Research Award, and Lydia Rivera
(9th) earned 2nd place and Best
Photography. In the category of
Zoology Isabella Rodriguez (9th)
earned 1st place and the Grand
Prize which qualified her to compete
in the International Science
and Engineering Fair (ISEF) which
will be held in Atlanta, Georgia
May 7-14th. Isabella Rodriguez is
the first student from the Palmas
Academy to qualify for the high
school competition. Please, join
