2013 Mississippi Nurses’ Association Annual Convention 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Concurrent Sessions (1.0 c/h) • ACLS Preparation: Exploring Basic EKG Skills with Betty Sylvest, DNS, RN, CNE ..D2 The session will provide a general knowledge base for basic EKG interpretation. • TeamSTEPPS: Relationship Based Care with Amber Arnold, DNP, & Skye Stoker, BSN ......................................................D3 The presenter will discuss the implementation of team training and relationship-based care in an emergency department. • Shared Medical Appointments: A Novel Approach to Management of Hypertension in Primary Care with Sheila Phillips, MSN, Clinical Nurse Leader ..................D4 In this session, the presenter will identify the importance of health coaching to enhance patient selfmanagement skills and introduce health coaching tools in a shared medical appointment setting. 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Concurrent Sessions (2.0 c/h) • Professional Interviewing Skills – Get the Job You Want with Curnis Upkins, BS .... D5 Mr. Upkins interviews many job applicants who are inadequately prepared for a job interview. He will provide participants with insight on how to prepare for and perform during a job interview in order to secure a desired position. 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Concurrent Sessions (1.0 c/h) • ACLS Preparation: Identify that Rhythm with Jamie Shedden, MSN, ACNP-BC ....D2 The participants will have the opportunity to recognize the abnormal cardiac rhythms seen in ACLS and gain active skills in ACLS rhythm recognition and management. • Interprofessional Rural School Based Health Centers in MS with Anne Norwood, PhD, FNP-BC, & Lisa Haynie, PhD, RN, CFNP .................D3 The learner will be introduced to Inter-professional Rural Health Care in a School-Based Health Care Arena. • How Medications Affect Obesity with Stan Owen, MD ........................D4 This session will explain metabolism and inflammation, how food affects metabolism, and how to prescribe medications in individual cases. 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Concurrent Sessions (1.0 c/h) • Management of Pediatric Emergencies with Chris Collado, MSN, PNP-BC .........D2 The presenter will familiarize the participants with assessment and recognition of common pediatric emergencies and their treatments (e.g. respiratory distress and failure; dehydration and shock). • Court is in Session: Defending the Medical Records Documentation with Diane Blanchard, PhD, RN, MS, CNS, Robbin Mulina, MSN, RN, & Eleanor Parrish, APRN, FNP-C ..D4 The presenters will define the Nursing Standard of Care for Medical Record Documentation and give the participant insight into a courtroom scene demonstrating common documentation errors. • CKD Screening in Primary Care with Ty Walton, MSN-FNPC ..................D4 In this session you will explore the awareness of chronic kidney disease in high-risk individuals. • RESEARCH ROUND TABLE FORUM (Former Poster Session) ..............D5-D6 We’ve taken this session out of the hall, given it a room of its own and added an Irish flare to celebrate our upcoming Shades of Ireland tour scheduled March 16-25, 2014. You will have a special passport to this adventure where you will visit at least 5 locales. Tables named after the Ireland tour sites, like Dublin and KilKenny, will feature special poster presentations where your 14

D1 This hands-on shoulder and knee joint injection workshop will consist of a didactic portion that discusses indications, contraindications, pharmacological principles, injection technique and knee joint aspiration.
