Through her experience and education, Amber has developed strengths in team building<br />
and challenging conventional wisdom. She has had the opportunity to participate in a<br />
variety of training courses related to patient safety science and team training allowing<br />
for a broad resource base on which to build her career. Amber continues to build<br />
a strong contact network through memberships in <strong>Mississippi</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong>’ <strong>Association</strong>,<br />
<strong>Mississippi</strong> Organization of Nurse Executives, American Society of Professionals in<br />
Patient Safety, and University of <strong>Mississippi</strong> Medical Center Alliance.<br />
Amber obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from UMMC in 2009 and graduated<br />
from the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program there in <strong>2013</strong>. She is a certified critical<br />
care nurse alumnus and a TeamSTEPPS® Master Trainer. In addition to committee<br />
membership related to her professional role, Amber serves on the Graduate Curriculum<br />
Committee for the University of <strong>Mississippi</strong> Medical Center’s School of Nursing,<br />
School of Nursing Alumni Board, and Nightingale Committee for <strong>Mississippi</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong>’<br />
Foundation and <strong>Mississippi</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong>’ <strong>Association</strong>.<br />
Statement of Intent:<br />
Having served on the Nightingale Committee for a number of years, Amber would like<br />
the opportunity to expand her responsibility and involvement with all organizational<br />
affairs associated with the <strong>Mississippi</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong>’ <strong>Association</strong>. She hopes to continue<br />
contributing to positive changes increasing participation and funding for the annual<br />
Nightingale Awards ceremony. In addition, she hopes to have the opportunity to assist<br />
with enhanced attraction to <strong>Convention</strong> among nurses and vendors. Also, with the<br />
recent update to the bylaws to flow well with ANA bylaws, Amber will work to keep<br />
them appropriately updated as changes are made.<br />

Tyrongilia Walton, RN, BSN, <strong>MS</strong>N, FNPC<br />
Biographical Profile: As a doctoral prepared advanced practice nurse, it is Tyrongilia’s desire to see change<br />
on the national, state, and local level for nurses in <strong>Mississippi</strong>. This desire propels her<br />
to become actively involved in making a difference. She possesses strong leadership<br />
and collaborative skills and strength in conflict resolution. She will use these skills to<br />
help with the continued advancement of the <strong>Mississippi</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong>’ <strong>Association</strong>.<br />
Tyrongilia is currently employed full-time at North <strong>Mississippi</strong> Regional Center and<br />
part-time at the Urgent Care Clinic in Oxford. She has been married for sixteen<br />
years to the love of her life, Harold Walton. She has three beautiful teenage children:<br />
Debrico, Daniel, and Sheluv. Tyrongilia is an active member of the Spirit of Excellence<br />
Ministries in Oxford, <strong>MS</strong> where she serves as the national church administrator.<br />
What is her purpose in life? This was a question that was answered with much<br />
prayer and searching. After becoming a caretaker to a close friend dying with AIDS,<br />
Tyrongilia knew that nursing would be her career. This goal would not be obtained<br />
without the challenges of life. A teenage mother at 15 and a ninth grade drop-out, she<br />
was determined to fulfill the call of nursing on her life. So, her journey began. From<br />
