FAMILY
Give new life
to your old jewellery
Much like a crystal, we are all
one of a kind. And sometimes,
only the most unique of
jewellery will do.
Yoga teacher Amanda Levett recently worked
with Infinity Jewellers and their A Ring is Reborn
service to create special pieces of jewellery for
herself, her daughter, and her first grandchild.
Amanda had inherited lots of jewellery from her
mother, grandmother, uncle and late husband that
she wanted to repurpose. With Jonathan’s help,
the mix of old items have been transformed into
three new pieces that each aligned with their new
owner’s individuality.
For Amanda
Inspired by a treasured French ring that had
belonged to her late mother, a simple pearl on a
disc of gold, Amanda wanted to create something
similar that suited her own personality.
As a lover of crystals, Amanda opted against
typical gemstones in place of a smoky quartz,
chosen for its ability to absorb negative energy
and manifest dreams into reality. She also wanted
the checkerboard crystal mounting upside down
so she could see the unique pattern when looking
down into the ring. But with the domed side facing
down, Jonathan had to fashion a way for it to be
securely mounted: it couldn’t be drilled and pinned
like a pearl.
“I gave Jonathan a challenge as I like things
a little bit different, but he completely understood
my idea and designed something just right with
a shape that complements the crystal. We used
a combination of 9ct and 18ct gold so there are
different colours in the ring head and shank which
works so well. It’s got the same rubbed over finish
as Mum’s ring but mine is even better as it means
so much more to me having been made with gold
that belonged to my loved ones.”
For her daughter, Lydia
Having lost her first husband when Lydia was a
baby, Amanda wanted to gift her daughter with her
antique sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
The ring is over 100 years old and once belonged
to a South African princess, having been bought
from Sotherby’s. Jonathan rethickened the band to
extend its longevity for future generations.
Using gold melted down from her parents’
wedding rings, Lydia also now has a wedding
band that fits perfectly around the awkward shape
of the engagement ring. Both items were given
as a surprise gift last Christmas, with a keepsake
book created by Jonathan documenting the
process that Lydia can treasure.
“When you go through a process like this, there
are worries as you’re leaving family heirlooms with
people you don’t know. It’s not about the monetary
value but the sentimental. But Jonathan is definitely
the person to trust. He made me feel so special, as
if I was bringing crown jewels in.”
For her grandson, Gabriel
Baby Gabriel was still in his mummy’s tummy
when the idea to create a special gift from the
jewellery of his ancestors was born. Jonathan has
created a dainty bracelet featuring moons and
stars to symbolise Amanda’s eternal love for her
grandson and her hopes and dreams for his future.
It features in his adorable newborn shoot taken by
Rob Mank Photography, as pictured below.
“The overall service was second to none. It was
a rollercoaster of emotions but Jonathan made
the process so easy, from design right through to
presentation. He even returned some of Mum’s
unused gold back to me so I have enough to make
a wedding ring for my younger brother if he ever
gets married.”
A beautiful piece
of jewellery to
be passed down
the generations
