HOMES The Staying Inn Fuelled by lockdowns gone by, gardens across the region have been given a lot of love over the last few years, with many people creating a bar area, ‘man cave’ or ‘dog house’ in their gardens. But don’t worry if you think you’re late to the party. We’ve got some ideas for how to bring happy hour home. Many retailers now sell purposebuilt wooden bars that are built similar to a shed. If this is the option you’re thinking of installing, make sure the ground is level first. Getting the foundation right is a key aspect to consider if you want your garden bar to last in all weather conditions. If your garden is all lawn, you can try paving slabs in order to mark where your bar will be located. If you live in rented accommodation, or would prefer some flexibility, consider a freestanding bar as they can move positions in the garden or you can take it with you when you leave. Most freestanding options have a Tiki beach bar vibe which you can festoon with colourful solar lights and beach signs. For smaller gardens, what about a foldaway bar that you can fix to the side of a fence or wall. Accessories will really make your bar feel like being at the pub. Optics, snack holders, wall mounted bottle openers, and personalised beer mats and bar runners will give an authentic look. Add some style with on-trend bar stools, cocktail shakers, and glasses. British weather may not be best for spending your whole summer outdoors, so a more durable and weather-proof option is incorporating a gazebo or a garden room. You can extend the use of your beer garden by incorporating heating but this will mean running an armoured cable from your fuse box.
