Alia Farid and Mounira Al-Solh,<br />
two Arab artists, are chosen to be honored with an<br />
award at UK’s biennial exhibition<br />
Artes Mundi, <strong>the</strong> UK’s<br />
biennial exhibition and<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational contemporary<br />
art prize, unveiled its shortlist for<br />
its tenth edition this week. Two<br />
Arab musicians are among <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational nom<strong>in</strong>ees: Alia Farid<br />
of Kuwait and Mounira Al-Solh of<br />
Lebanon.<br />
The works of <strong>the</strong> artists will be<br />
displayed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> biennial exhibition,<br />
which will run from October 2023<br />
to March 2024. The coveted<br />
contemporary art award, which will<br />
be announced at <strong>the</strong> exhibition,<br />
will be worth around $50,000 to <strong>the</strong><br />
recipient.<br />
Farid is a multidiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary artist<br />
whose work ranges from writ<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and draw<strong>in</strong>g to film sculpture and<br />

pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs, draw<strong>in</strong>gs, and<br />
needlework. Her work is primarily<br />
concerned with self-reflection,<br />
fem<strong>in</strong>ism, and micro-history, as well<br />
as social and political issues.<br />
She has had exhibitions <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
United States, Germany, France,<br />
<strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands, Turkey, and Qatar,<br />
among o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Carol<strong>in</strong>a Caycedo of Colombia,<br />
Naomi R<strong>in</strong>con Gallardo of Mexico,<br />
Taloi Hav<strong>in</strong>i of Papua New Gu<strong>in</strong>ea,<br />
and Nguyen Tr<strong>in</strong>h Thi of Vietnam<br />
