Critters<br />

Crazy Plants Nursery, 22919 County Road 44A,<br />

Eustis, holds its I’m So “Hot” For Plants Sale to help<br />

fund construction projects and cover costs of diets,<br />

vetting, enrichment programs and more for Crazy<br />

Critters Inc. The nonprofit licensed facility is important<br />

because it serves as a Florida Wildlife Commission<br />

Amnesty location for some species of exotic animals;<br />

is a contracted partner with county animal control divisions;<br />

and helps the national community by providing<br />

non-domestic, non-releasable animals with a safe and<br />

permanent home. One such animal is the red-eared<br />

slider turtle, which is the most surrendered animal in<br />

the pet trade. It is included in the list of the world’s<br />

100 most invasive species, and Florida requires redeared<br />

slider owners to possess a free, personal pet<br />

permit. Time: Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.<br />

Aug. 27 — Ukraine Ballet Benefit<br />

Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing<br />

Arts, 445 S. Magnolia Ave., Orlando, hosts a live<br />

performance by the National Ballet of Ukraine. The<br />

evening opens with a presentation of the Ukrainian<br />

and American national anthems performed by the<br />

Orlando Opera, followed by the main performance<br />

that features excerpts from the greatest ballets while<br />

highlighting Ukrainian culture. A silent auction also is<br />

held in the lobby. Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., program<br />

in support of children battling pediatric cancer. Register<br />

enrollment for adult and youth education fall classes.<br />

Semester-long classes at the art center’s AdventHealth<br />

School of the Arts are available for students of all ages and<br />

skill levels in a range of performing arts, including musical<br />

theater, comedy, acting, dance, vocal performance and<br />

more. Applications are also being accepted for auditions<br />

to Dr. Phillips Center’s annual youth production groups.<br />
