— Which team did you
support as a boy?
— I didn’t really have
anyone as I lived in the
middle of nowhere.
I suppose I leaned
towards QPR or
Arsenal? Did I say that?
Yeah, that’s what it was
back then.
— Who was your
favourite player?
— I reckon I’d have
said Stan Bowles and
Gerry Francis. Am I right
again? My memory is
holding up so far!
— What is your
favourite food
and drink?
— Back in ‘93, what was
I eating? Salmon and
scrambled egg? And
coffee? I said tea, well I
was partial to that and a
Sunday roast I suppose!
— What is the biggest
game you have
played in?
— The Wednesday
semi-final hadn’t
happened at this stage,
so back then I’d guess
SHEFFIELD UNITED vs COVENTRY CITY
and say a Wimbledon
promotion game v
Huddersfield in ‘86? I
said Villa v Spurs? Okay,
that was a big game!
Looking back now I’ve
finished it would have
to be the Wednesday
cup game.

and music?
— So, in 1993, would I
have said something
like The Cure? Blue
Monday was my answer,
fair enough. I also
said any dance music?
Really! What? What was
I talking about! I should
have said anything
early ‘80s punk or
some indie stuff. Clash,
Stranglers etc.
— What are your
hobbies outside of
football?
— Not sure what my
hobbies were in ‘93! I
said playing Nintendo?!
I remember the Super
Mario games. These
days it is walking or
listening to music.

— I’d have said PE
teacher. That was what
I was doing before
football. Yeah, got that
right. Now I own the
Manor House Hotel in
Dronfield.
— Which current player
do you most admire?
— Who would I have
said in ‘93? No, can’t
remember. I said
Strachan?! Haven’t
a clue why I said
that! These days I’ll
keep it Sheff Utd and
say Basham.
— What is the most
annoying thing about
being a footballer?
— Did I say the
travelling or restricted
diet? I did say diet,
yeah agree with that
even now.
