Welcome / Croeso
Welcome to your latest issue of
Rhiwbina Living.
This issue celebrates 15 years
of publication. Over the decade
and a half, we've learned that
Rhiwbina is packed full of
interesting and amazing people
and their stories. There's a
tale or two to be told behind
every door, and we found
that out when we spoke to
lifelong Rhiwbina resident
Dianne Bartley. Dianne recalls
her memories of Rhiwbina
stretching all the way back to
her childhood in the 1940s.
Rhiwbina was a very different
place back then and her tales
remind us of what a great
community spirit Rhiwbina has
always had throughout the
generations.
Dianne also recalls the shops
in Rhiwbina, which have
always been the lifeblood of the
community over the years. We
take a walk down Memory Lane
with a look at our village shops in
years gone by.
And if your memory would like a
challenge, we've created a super
quiz all about Rhiwbina to test
your powers of knowledge and
recollection.
As a guide, we like to focus on
the seasons in each and every
issue of our magazines and while
spring is still a little way off, we
can celebrate what winter has to
offer.
Poetry is one of the most
creative ways that we can
express our innermost feelings
and we've collected a series of
winter poems from our readers
to observe the season.
Although staying indoors seems
the natural choice at this time of
year, getting active outdoors is
good for body and soul. We've
put together a collection of
winter walks that you can take
in the south Wales area. They'll
help you feel revitalised and
ready to take on the year ahead.
The start of the new year is
often a time of reflection and
reset. With that in mind, we've
created some wonderful features
that can help you get back on
track as we start another year.
First up, we show you how you
can help cleanse your mind,
which will help you feel calmer
and more in control. We've also
hand-picked some products that
can help you detox, which many
of us feel we need after a heavy
season.
Following the same theme,
we've also gathered together
some delicious detox recipes
which will leave you feeling full -
and cleansed!
Llanishen Fach Primary School
have also been knocking up
some treats in their kitchen. They
tell us how they set aside Fridays
to encourage active learning in
the kitchen for their students.
War artist Dan Peterson takes
us on a journey to war-torn
Afghanistan and we've also got
the story of rugby in Wales to
tie in with this year's Six Nations
campaign. How will Wales do
now that Mr G is back? Let's keep
our fingers crossed.
To sign us off for this issue, we
have an inspiring short story
from award-winning author
Allie Morgan. It's a story of new
beginnings and of hope for the
future.
We've already started work on
our next issue so until then, enjoy
the start to your new year and
we'll see you in the spring!
