THE STAR
It's settled
The snow
Woven in
Icy threads
I've never been this cold
How many people
Will die?
Is all I can think of.
Take the glass from your eye.
It's time to go back.
Share heat
Put the homeless' sleeping bags in the dryer
I don't have one
My clothes take a week to dry
Feed them
WINTER SOLSTICE
Heavy boots crunch on crisp grass,
blizzard flakes fall from pink hue sky
as Winter announces its arrival.
Patricia M Osborne
Google your nearest food bank and send them a fiver
Inside old people shiver
Boilers stay silent, no coal fires,
While people in threadbare blankets sleep on their sofa,
How can they survive this winter
We need money to migrate, but we have nothing.
Those alone.
It's when you get too cold, you can't think.
No one wanted you for the holidays, means no one wanted you at all.
You stop trying to call.
How many people will die?
How many people will die?
ANGELS IN THE
SNOW
Once so long ago
When I was a child
Energetic and a little wild
I woke up to a sight
Most wondrous to behold
Oh what a wonder
I shouted
“wake up sister mine!”
“Look outside! It’s wintertime!”
We squealed in plain delight
At a sight
so marvellous and thrilling
so beautiful and bright
A blanket of sparkling diamonds
Two young girls
From a country full of warmth
Witnessing
for the first time in our lives
A winter wonderland
And so
With gloveless hands
Daring, brave and bold
We ran out to the cold
arms stretched out wide
We laughed and cried
In awe of that which stunned us
We spun circles round and round
Until we crashed onto the ground
The two of us now grown
We made angels in the snow
