Island hopping around the British Virgin Islands offers a realm of diverse experiences for
a complete Caribbean getaway. Whether by boat or small plane, you can explore this

The relative seclusion of the BVI, at the northern tip of the
Caribbean’s Leeward Islands, allows for the protection and
exclusivity of their fascinating attributes: ranging from isolated
bays sheltered by fish-abundant reefs to historic wrecks, forts
and relics of sugar plantations. Keen hikers can trek through
rainforest to the top of Mount Sage, the highest point in the Virgin
Islands; or descend to its lowest altitude on the coral island of
Anegada. While yachts are aplenty for every type of sailor, those
preferring terra firma have a host of hotel options. Likewise,
there is a variety of restaurants, from ‘feet in the sand’ beach
bars to fine dining, and the islands’ signature cocktail will whet
everyone’s appetite!
With more than fifty islands, the BVI clearly offer unlimited
choice. When planning a trip it is best to begin by visiting the four
principal islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van
Dyke, before discovering the smaller islands dotted in between
– over half of which are uninhabited. Conveniently located in the
center is the largest island Tortola whose capital Road Town is
clustered around a horseshoe-shaped harbor and reflects the
authentic style of the Caribbean with its pastel-colored buildings
and gingerbread-trimmed tin roofs. Take time to wander around
the historical streets, not only to admire its well-preserved
architecture but also to peruse the boutiques offering locally
made artifacts, island spices and Callwood rum – produced at
the 400-year-old family distillery that certainly merits a visit.
Road Town is commonly where ferries and yacht charters begin
and end their journeys in this renowned ‘sailing capital of the
Caribbean’.

nord des îles sous le vent de la Caraïbe, aura favorisé la préservation
et le caractère exclusif d’attributs remarquables : qu’il s’agisse de
baies isolées, protégées par des récifs hauts en couleur, d’épaves
historiques ou bien de forts et de vestiges des plantations sucrières.
Les randonneurs avertis pourront traverser la forêt tropicale jusqu'au
sommet du Mount Sage, point culminant des îles Vierges, ou bien
trouver son point le plus bas en l'île corallienne d'Anegada. Si les yachts
abondent pour satisfaire tous les profils de navigateurs, ceux qui
penchent pour la terre ferme bénéficieront d’un large choix d'hôtels.
Les établissements vont des bars de plage « les pieds dans le sable »
aux restaurants gastronomiques, mais le cocktail emblématique de
l'île saura mettre tout le monde en appétit !
Avec plus de cinquante îles, les IVB offrent de toute évidence un large
éventail de possibilités. Quand vient le moment de planifier votre
voyage, préférez débuter celui-ci par la visite des 4 îles principales, à
savoir Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada et Jost Van Dyke. Puis partez
à la découverte des plus petites îles situées entre les précédentes
— dont plus de la moitié demeurent inhabitées. La plus grande île,
Tortola, bénéficie d'un emplacement central. Sa capitale, Road
Town, s'articule autour d'un port en forme de fer à cheval et reflète
le style authentique des Caraïbes de par ses bâtiments aux couleurs
pastel et ses toits en tôle aux finitions tarabiscotées. Prenez le
temps de flâner dans ses rues historiques, que ce soit pour admirer
son architecture préservée ou pour écumer les boutiques proposant
des articles de manufacture locale, quelques épices insulaires
ou du rhum Callwood — produit dans la vieille distillerie familiale,
âgée de 400 ans et qui vaut certainement le détour. Célèbre
« capitale de la navigation caribéenne », Road Town est en général
le point de départ et d'arrivée des ferries et des yachts de charter.
