VAFF 2022 OPENING NIGHT GALA

VAFF (Vancouver Asian Film Festival) is the longest-running Asian film
festival in Canada. It was founded in 1995 and debuted in September
1997. Since then, tens of thousands of film lovers have experienced
a diverse selection of North American, Asian and international films.
Dedicated to promoting and celebrating the diversity and depth of
Asian culture and identity in film and media, the 2022 festival finally
hosted live events again after a 2-year hiatus.
The Opening Night on November 3 started with a screening of ‘Stay
the Night’ by Toronto director Renuka Jeyapalan before guests headed
to the Opening Night Gala at Parq Vancouver’s D/6 Lounge. Here,
complimentary hors-d’oeuvres, special cocktails, a photo booth and
entertainment were waiting. The organizers also introduced their special
guest for the event, Netflix’s Bling Empire Kevin Kreider.
One of the stars of the reality TV hit show, Kevin, who was born in South
Korea, was accompanied by his girlfriend Devon and promoted SANS, a
non-alcoholic beverage he created.
The four-day festival, which is entirely organized and produced by a
group of dedicated volunteers with support from corporate sponsors,
public funders and private donors, saw packed theatres, 14 screened
programs and heard inspiring words from filmmakers, special guests and
audience members alike.
